Ásgeir Örn Hallgrimsson (born 17 February 1984) is an Icelandic former handball player. After starting his career with Haukar, [1] he went on to play several seasons professionally around Europe, including with GOG and TBV Lemgo. He announced his retirement following the 2019–2020 season. [2] [3]
Ásgeir played 247 games for the Icelandic national team, scoring 414 goals, [2] and competed with the team at the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Summer Olympics. [4] [5]
The Icelandic men's national handball team represents Iceland in international men's handball. It is controlled by the Icelandic Handball Association.
Jakob Örn Sigurðarson is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player. He was named the Icelandic men's basketball player of the year in 2011. Jakob won the Icelandic championship in 2000 and 2009, and the Swedish championship in 2011.
Alfreð Gíslason is an Icelandic handball coach and former player who is currently the head coach of the German men's national team. He won titles in Iceland, Germany and Spain as a player before starting his coaching career in 1991 with Icelandic team KA as a player-coach. He later coached German club SC Magdeburg, where he won the Bundesliga and the EHF Champions League, the Icelandic men's national team and German club THW Kiel, where he won six Bundesliga, six DHB-Pokal and two EHF Champions League titles. Alfreð was the Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year in 1989 and inducted into the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland Hall of Fame in 2019.

In 2020, he won the Swedish championship with Borås Basket. In 2021, he was named the Lithuanian Basketball League MVP after leading the league in assists. On 13 March 2020, with each team having one game left, the season was postponed for at least four weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. On 18 March, the rest of the season was canceled. Fjölnir was relegated and Stjarnan was named divisional champions for having the best record at the time of the cancelation but no national champions would be named for the season.
