Oscar Denis Sánchez (born 2 October 1946,in Concepción) is a Paraguayan politician and former Vice President. He was elected in June 2012. [1] Upon his election he was Senator in the Senate of Paraguay.
Previously he was the governor of Concepción Department 1993–1998 and a member of the Chamber of Deputies 1998–2003. He is a chemist by profession. [1]
Denis was kidnapped along with one of his employees,on 9 September 2020 near Concepción,not far from the site where the Paraguayan army had dismantled a Paraguayan People’s Army (EPP) training area a week before. On 11 September,it was officially revealed that this organization was responsible for the abductions. [2] As of May 2022 [update] ,Denis remains in captivity. [3]

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel or CJNG,formerly known as Los Mata Zetas,is a semi-militarized Mexican criminal group based in Jalisco which is headed by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes,one of the world's most-wanted drug lords. The cartel has been characterized by its aggressive use of extreme violence and its public relations campaigns. Although the CJNG is particularly known for diversifying into various types of criminal rackets,drug trafficking as well as stealing crude oil remain among their most profitable criminal activities. The cartel has also been noted for cannibalizing some of its victims,sometimes during the training of new sicarios or cartel members as well as using drones to attack their enemies. U.S. prosecutors have said operatives of the cartel tried to buy belt-fed M-60 machine guns in the United States,and once brought down a Mexican military helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade.
The insurgency in Paraguay,also known as the Paraguayan People's Army insurgency and the EPP rebellion,is an ongoing low-level armed conflict in northeastern Paraguay. Between 2005 and the summer of 2014,the ongoing EPP campaign has resulted in at least 50 deaths in total,the majority of them being local ranchers,private security guards and police officers,along with several insurgents. During that same period the group perpetrated 28 kidnappings for ransom and a total of 85 "violent acts".
