Ishygly (Azerbaijani : İşıqlı) is a village in the Qubadli District of Azerbaijan.

History

The village was located in the Armenian-occupied territories surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, coming under the control of ethnic Armenian forces on 23 August 1993 during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War in the early 1990s. The village subsequently became part of the breakaway Republic of Artsakh as part of its Kashatagh Province, referred to as Urekan (Armenian : Ուռեկան). It was recaptured on 2 November 2020 during the Lachin offensive by Azerbaijan during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. [2]

Shukur Nariman oğlu Hamidov was an AzerbaijanI officer, national hero and colonel of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. He was son to Nariman and Shargiya Hamidov. He was an enlisted member of the army since a young age and had experienced multiple wars. His family were refugees from Armenia that later migrated to Azerbaijan.

The Lachin offensive was a military operation launched by Azerbaijan against the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh and their Armenian allies along the Armenia–Azerbaijan border during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, with the suspected goal of taking control of the Lachin corridor. The offensive began in mid-October, when the Azerbaijani forces advanced into Qubadlı and Laçın Districts after capturing Zəngilan. On 25 October, the Azerbaijani forces seized control of the city of Qubadlı.

Following the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war and in accordance with 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire agreement, Republic of Azerbaijan re-established authority on the part of the territories, previously de-facto controlled by the breakaway Republic of Artsakh, which allowed Azerbaijan to begin rehabilitation in areas of the Karabakh, many of which had been practically leveled since Azerbaijan lost control of them in the 1990s.
