The 1976–77 Liga Alef season was the first in which Liga Alef was the third tier of Israeli football due to the formation of Liga Artzit.
Hapoel Tirat HaCarmel (champions of the North Division) and Hapoel Beit Shemesh (champions of the South Division) won the title and promotion to Liga Artzit.

The 1980–81 Liga Artzit season saw Beitar Tel Aviv win the title and win promotion to Liga Leumit. Beitar Jerusalem and Maccabi Haifa were also promoted.
The 1982–83 Liga Artzit season saw Beitar Tel Aviv win the title and promotion to Liga Leumit. Hakoah Ramat Gan and Maccabi Ramat Amidar were also promoted.
The 1954–55 Liga Bet season was the last in which Liga Bet was the second tier of Israeli football, as the new Liga Leumit became the top division and Liga Alef became the second tier.

The 1969–70 Liga Bet season saw Hapoel Nahariya, Hapoel Zikhron Ya'akov, and Hapoel Yehud win their regional divisions and promoted to Liga Alef. Hapoel Beit Shemesh, which placed third in South Division B was also promoted, as the top two clubs, Hapoel Ramla and Hapoel Ashdod were involved in match-fixing scandal, and as a result, both clubs were disqualified by the IFA.
The 1972–73 Liga Bet season saw Hapoel Kiryat Ata, Hapoel Netanya, Maccabi Holon and SK Nes Tziona win their regional divisions and promoted to Liga Alef.
The 1973–74 Liga Alef season saw Hapoel Acre and Maccabi Sha'arayim win their regional divisions, and qualify with the second-placed clubs, Shimshon Tel Aviv and Hapoel Marmorek for promotion play-offs against the bottom two clubs in Liga Leumit, Hakoah Ramat Gan and Maccabi Haifa. Shimshon Tel Aviv were the only promoted club from Liga Alef to Liga Leumit.

The 1986–87 Liga Alef season saw Maccabi Hadera and Hapoel Bat Yam win their regional divisions, and qualify for promotion play-offs against the 11th and 12th placed clubs in Liga Artzit, Hapoel Marmorek and Hapoel Ramat Gan. Hapoel Bat Yam were the only promoted club from Liga Alef to Liga Artzit.
The 2008–09 Liga Bet season was the last season of Liga Bet as the fifth tier of the Israeli football league system. The third tier, Liga Artzit was scrapped at the end of the season, making Liga Bet the fourth tier.
Hapoel Beit Shemesh Football Club was an Israeli football club based at Beit Shemesh. In its prime the club played in the second tier of the Israeli football league system. The club was dissolved in 1994 due to financial difficulties. A successor club, Ironi Beit Shemesh, plays in Liga Bet.
