First-seeded Björn Borg successfully defended his title, defeating Víctor Pecci, Sr. 6–3, 6–1, 6–7(6–8), 6–4 in the final to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 1979 French Open.
First-seeded and two-time defending champion Björn Borg successfully defended his tennis title at the 1980 French Open, defeating Vitas Gerulaitis 6–4, 6–1, 6–2 in the final to win his fifth French title after 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1979. Borg went through the entire tournament, which featured 17 of the top 20 players, without dropping a set; this would not be achieved by a man at a Grand Slam event again until Roger Federer at the 2007 Australian Open.
