Wally Masur is a tennis coach, television commentator, and former professional tennis player from Sydney, Australia. He reached the semifinals of the 1987 Australian Open and the 1993 US Open, achieving a career-high singles ranking of world No. 15 in October 1993.

Stefan Edberg defeated Boris Becker in the final, 4–6, 7–6(7–2), 6–4, 6–2 to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 1988 Wimbledon Championships. It was his first Wimbledon singles title and third major singles title overall. Most of the final was played on the third Monday. On Sunday, Becker and Edberg only managed 22 minutes of constantly interrupted play due to rain, with Edberg leading 3–2 in the first set before the rest of the final was played the next day.

Stefan Edberg defeated the two-time defending champion Mats Wilander in the final, 6–4, 6–3, 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 1985 Australian Open. It was his first major singles title. Edberg saved two match points en route to the title, against Wally Masur in the fourth round.

Vijay Amritraj defeated Tim Wilkison 7–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2 to win the 1977 New Zealand Open singles competition. Onny Parun was the champion but did not defend his title.
