Gary Stefan is a retired ice hockey player and coach. He played for Richmond Flyers in 1980–1981 and Streatham Redskins between 1981 and 1987 before joining Slough Jets, whom he played for until he retired at the end of the 1998–99 season. He also played for the Great Britain national ice hockey team at three world championships in 1990, 1991 and 1992. He was inducted to the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000.

The Oxford City Stars are an ice hockey team based in Oxford, England. They currently play in the NIHL South Division 2.
The Inter-City League, also known as the English League South, was the top-flight ice hockey league in southern England from 1978, when it alongside the English League North replaced the Southern League. In 1982, it was replaced by the British Hockey League, running on a national basis.
The Southern League was the top-flight ice hockey league for clubs in the majority of England from 1970. It was formed as the counterpart to the clubs in Scotland and the north of England called the Northern League. In 1978, it was replaced by the English League North and English League South. In 1976-77, a "B" league was run, while a junior league was also contested in most seasons.
Streatham Redhawks is a British ice hockey club based in Streatham, London, England. Amongst the oldest British ice hockey teams still in existence, they were founded in 1932 as Streatham, and added the name Redskins in 1974. During the 1980s, the club were one of the leading teams in the British Hockey League, their biggest rivals being the Nottingham Panthers. By the end of the 1980s, however, the club's fortunes were in decline and they were relegated from the Premier Division in 1989.

Of the 16 games of the season, only four were decided by more than a single possession.
