The 1989–90 I-Divisioona season was the 16th season of the I-Divisioona, the second level of Finnish ice hockey. 12 teams participated in the league, and Ässät Pori won the championship. Ässät Pori and Hockey-Reipas Lahti qualified for the promotion/relegation round of the SM-liiga.

Porin Ässät, officially named Hockey Club Ässät Pori and colloquially known as Pata, is a professional ice hockey club based in Pori, Finland. It competes in the SM-liiga, the highest-ranking league of ice hockey in Finland. Since 1971, Ässät has played its games in the Isomäki Ice Hall.
Veli-Pekka Ketola is a Finnish former professional ice hockey player and coach. He played 15 seasons in the top flight of ice hockey in Finland, 10 of which were with the Porin Ässät. Ketola retired from professional ice hockey in 1982 after his National Hockey League (NHL) debut season with the Colorado Rockies. Ketola also represented the World Hockey Association (WHA) teams Winnipeg Jets and the Calgary Cowboys.
Matt Nickerson is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman who last played for Finnish second tier side TuTo Turku. He previously played for three teams in the UK's EIHL.

Antti Heikkilä is a Finnish former hockey player and hockey influencer. During his active career, he played as a defender. Antti Heikkilä and his brother, Lasse, have been important influences in the development of ice hockey in the city of Pori.

Manu Juhani Tamminen is a Finnish retired professional ice hockey player who played in the SM-liiga and World Hockey Association. He played for TPS, HJK, HIFK, Cleveland Crusaders, and Phoenix Roadrunners. He represented Finland at the 1976 Canada Cup. He was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.

Mikko Viitanen is a Finnish former professional ice hockey defenceman who most notably played in the Finnish Liiga. He was drafted 149th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Viitanen previously played seven seasons with JYP, joining from fellow Liiga club Lukko Rauma in 2009.
The 2012–13 SM-liiga season was the 38th season of the SM-liiga, the top level of ice hockey in Finland, since the league's formation in 1975. The title was won by Ässät Pori who defeated Tappara Tampere in the finals.

Isomäen jäähalli, also known as Enersense Areena for sponsorship reasons is a multi-purpose arena located in Pori, Finland. The arena is used by ice hockey clubs Porin Ässät and Porin Kiekko Weljet. The arena was opened in 1971 and the capacity for hockey games is 6 150 and for concerts 4 000.
Tatyana Tsaryova is a Soviet-born Russian retired ice hockey player, a right winger. She represented Russia in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and at the IIHF Women's World Championship in 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2001, winning a bronze medal at the 2001 tournament.

Rami Määttä is a Finnish professional ice hockey defenceman who plays for HC Ässät Pori of the Finnish Elite League and serves as the team's alternate captain. Määttä played his junior years in his local team Oulun Kärpät, but moved to the HC Ässät Pori in 2018 at the U18 level. Määttä was awarded Ässät's alternate captaincy for the 2024–25 Liiga season. He won the U20 Finnish Championship in 2024, joining Ässät's U20 squad after the men's team got eliminated from a playoff spot.
Porin Ässät was a football club from Pori, Finland. It was established in 1967 as two local sports clubs Karhut and RU-38 merged. The football section was dissolved in 1981 and today Ässät is known as an ice hockey club.
Porin Ässät ry is a sports club based in Pori, Finland. The club's only programs are ice hockey and esports, but it used to have an association football program. Porin Ässät ry operates an ice hockey team in the Finnish Elite League. Porin Ässät ry also has junior teams for all age groups from U7 to U20. Porin Ässät ry also operate a women's ice hockey school and the girl's junior ice hockey department while also operating a skating school.
The history of the Porin Ässät starts in 1925, when Porin Palloilijat was established, even though PoPa is often considered as a separate club from Ässät.
The 1989–90 Porin Ässät season was the club's first and only season in the I-Divisioona and the second highest league in Finland. Ässät was relegated after the previous SM-liiga season. Ässät crushed I-Divisioona records and was promoted back to the SM-liiga after just one season.
