During the 1999–2000 English football season, Tranmere Rovers F.C. competed in the Football League First Division where they finished in 13th position on 57 points. Rovers had great success in the cup competitions reaching the final of the League Cup, losing 2–1 to Leicester, and also made the quarters in the FA Cup.

Tranmere Rovers L.F.C.

Tranmere Rovers Ladies Football Club are an English team founded in 1990, based in the Wirral, and affiliated with Tranmere Rovers F.C. Between 1996 and 2004 they competed in the FA Premier League National Division, then the top tier of the English women's football pyramid. They are currently members of the North West Women's Regional League Premier Division and play their home games at Villa Park, the home of Ashville F.C. in Wallasey.

The 1999–2000 Football League Cup was the 40th staging of the Football League Cup, a knockout competition for England's top 92 football clubs. The competition name reflects a sponsorship deal with lager brand Worthington.

They joined the Football League Third Division North, when it was established after the restructuring of the English league system.
