The women's scratch race at the 2007 Dutch National Track Championships in Alkmaar took place at Sportpaleis Alkmaar on December 28, 2007. 27 riders competed in the contest. [1] [2]

A scratch race is a track cycling race in which all riders start together and the objective is simply to be first over the finish line after a certain number of laps.

The 2007 Dutch National Track Championships were the Dutch national Championship for track cycling. The competitions took place at Sportpaleis Alkmaar in Alkmaar, the Netherlands from December 27 to December 30. Competitions were held of various track cycling disciplines in different age, gender and disability categories.

The initial qualification heats were won by Ellen van Dijk and Vera Koedooder. The gold medal macht was won by Marianne Vos ahead of Adrie Visser and Elise van Hage. [1] [2]

Eleonora Maria "Ellen" van Dijk is a Dutch professional road racing cyclist riding for Team Sunweb. Besides road cycling she was also a track cyclist until 2012. Van Dijk is known as a time trial specialist and is five times world champion. She won her first world title on the track in the scratch race in 2008. She became Road World Champion in 2012, 2013 and 2016 with her respective trade teams in the team time trial and in 2013 also in the individual time trial. In 2015, she won the time trial at the first European Games and the silver medal in the team time trial at the world championships.

Vera Koedooder is a Dutch professional racing cyclist.

Marianne Vos is a Dutch cyclo-cross, road bicycle racer, mountain bike racer and track racer, who currently rides for UCI Women's Team CCC Liv. Vos has drawn comparison to Eddy Merckx as being "the finest cyclist of [her] generation".

Competition format

Due to the number of entries the competition started with a qualification round. The qualification round included two heats and the top 12 riders of each heat qualified for the final race. [3]

The Netherlands competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, People's Republic of China. This was announced in an official statement on the NOC*NSF website. In the statement they named the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games as a highlight in sports to which a lot of sportspeople, coaches and the Dutch sports fans would look forward. The Netherlands aimed for a top 10 nations ranking in the Olympics as well as a top 25 ranking in the Paralympics; they ended up ranking 12th at the Games.

It was one of the eight women's events, held at the Manchester Velodrome in Manchester, Great Britain on the fifth and final day of the Championships on 30 March 2008. It was the seventh women's scatch race appearance at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships. 21 women from 21 countries participated in the race.
