The following is the 2008–09 network television schedule for the six major English language commercial broadcast networks in the United States. The schedule covers prime time hours from September 2008 through August 2009. The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series cancelled after the 2007–08 season. The schedule omits the Public Broadcasting Service (whose programming is listed here).

The official schedule was set by each network before the start of the official fall season. NBC revealed its fall schedule on April 2 [1] followed ABC and The CW on May 13, [2] [3] CBS on May 14, [4] Fox on May 15, [5] and MyNetworkTV on May 22. [6] The CW unveiled its Sunday lineup on May 27. [7]

All times given are in U.S. Eastern Time. Pacific Time is the same. Subtract one hour for Central or Mountain time. The exception is when a program is aired live in all time zones (such as NBC Sunday Night Football ).

Each of the 30 highest-rated shows is listed with its rank and rating as determined by Nielsen Media Research. [8]

The 20th and final season of Law & Order premiered on NBC on September 25, 2009, for which it was moved from its previous time slot to air on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET for the NBC broadcast. L&O was moved to Monday nights on March 1, 2010 with a two-hour telecast at 9 p.m. ET, before settling into its new time slot at 10 p.m. the following week, March 8.
