The Liga ABF 2009–10 was the 53th season of women's handball top flight in Spain since its establishment, running from 12 September 2010 to 15 May 2010. Fourteen teams took part in the championship, with CB Castro Urdiales and CBM Murcia replacing relegated teams CB Monóvar and CB Zuazo.

División de Honor Femenina de Balonmano or Liga Guerreras Iberdrola after sponsorship of Iberdrola, is the premier women's professional handball league in Spain.

Spain Kingdom in Southwest Europe

Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain, is a country mostly located on the Iberian Peninsula in Europe. Defending champion SD Itxako won its second title, [1] while EHF Cup runner-up CBF Elda was second and BM Sagunto, Mar Alicante and CB León also qualified for EHF's competitions. [2] BM Gijón and CB Ribarroja were relegated, with the latter (CB Amadeo Tortajada's successor) being disbanded following the end of the season.

The Liga ABF 2008–09 was the 52nd season of women's handball top flight in Spain since its establishment, running from 13 September 2008. to 23 May 2009. SD Itxako won the championship for the first time with a seven points advantage over Balonmano Sagunto. CBF Elda, Bera Bera, Mar Alicante and CB Elche followed in European positions, while CB Zuazo and CBF Monóvar were relegated.

SD Itxako

Sociedad Deportiva Itxako, known as Asfi Itxako for sponsorship reasons, was a Spanish women's handball team from Estella-Lizarra, Navarre. Itxako were four times Spanish league winners and the EHF Women's Champions League runners-up.

The 2009–10 Women's EHF Cup was the 29th edition of the competition. It was won by Randers HK, beating Spanish runner-up CBF Elda in the final. This was the sixth trophy won by a Danish club, following five editions won by Hungarian, Russian and Spanish teams, and the second international title for Randers, which had previously won the 2000 EHF Challenge Cup.

CBF Elda

Club Balonmano Femenino Elda, also known as Elda Prestigio for sponsorship reasons, is a Spanish women's handball team from Elda, Valencian Community founded in 1985.

BM Sagunto

Club Balonmano Sagunto was a Spanish women's handball club from Sagunto founded in 1978 which in July, 2012 moved to Valencia and joint CE Handbol Marítim to play in División de Honor as Valencia Aicequip.

Agrupación Deportiva Sagardía was a Spanish women's handball club from Santander, Cantabria, founded in 1984. It takes its name from the school in the city's Peñacastillo district where it was born in 1978. Nowadays it is settled in the La Albericia district. The club has also been known as Bansander, Verdaloe, Caja Cantabria and Marina Park for sponsorship reasons.

CB Mar Alicante

Club Balonmano Mar Alicante is a Spanish team handball club from Alicante, that plays in Segunda División Nacional, the 3rd-tier handball league for women in Spain. Founded in 1996, the team has achieved its best results in recent years. They were the runners-up of the 2010 Spanish Cup and Supercup and the 2011 Cup Winners' Cup, falling short to SD Itxako and Ferencvárosi TC respectively.

Itxako, four times champion, were the defending champion but the club was disbanded during 2013's summer. The season began on 13 September, 2013 and the last matchday was played on 17 May, 2014. A total of 14 teams took part the league, 11 of which had already contested in the 2012–13 season, 1 new created team and two of which were promoted from the División de Plata 2012–13.

The 2015–16 Liga ASOBAL, also named Liga ASOBAL BAUHAUS by sponsorship reasons, is the 26th season since its establishment. FC Barcelona was the defending champions.

The División de Honor Femenina 2016–17, or Liga Loterías 2016-17 after sponsorship of Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, is the 60th season of women's handball top flight in Spain since its establishment. Mecalia Atlético Guardés won their first División de Honor title ever. The season began on 10 September, 2016 and the last matchday was played on 27 May, 2017. A total of 14 teams took part the league, 12 of which had already contested in the 2015–16 season, and two of which were promoted from the División de Plata 2015–16.

Bera Bera won his fifth title. The season began on 6 September, 2017 and the last matchday was played on 26 May, 2018. A total of 14 teams took part the league, 12 of which had already contested in the 2016–17 season, and two of which were promoted from the División de Plata 2016–17.
