The Horizon League is a 12-school collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, whose members are located in and near the Great Lakes region.
Greg McDermott is an American basketball coach who has been the head coach of the Creighton Bluejays men's basketball team since 2010. Previously, McDermott served as the head coach at Wayne State College, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, and Iowa State. He is the father of NBA player Doug McDermott.
The Pittsburgh Panthers men's basketball team is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's basketball program of the University of Pittsburgh, often referred to as "Pitt", located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pitt men's basketball team competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and plays their home games in the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers were retroactively recognized as the pre-NCAA Tournament national champion twice by the Helms Athletic Foundation and once by the Premo-Porretta Power Poll. Pitt has reached one Final Four, received 15 First Team All-American selections, appeared in 26 NCAA and nine National Invitation Tournaments (NIT) and through the 2019–20 season, and has recorded 1,631 victories against 1,189 losses since their inaugural season of 1905–06.
Wofford College sponsors 18 sports for men's and women's programs, competing as the Terriers. The Terriers compete in the Southern Conference, and have been a part of the league since the 1997–98 academic year. Wofford and the other SoCon members play football in the Football Championship Subdivision. Prior to the 1995–96 year, the Terriers played in Division II in all sports, and until the 1988–89 period, Wofford's athletic teams were members of the NAIA. The football team plays in Gibbs Stadium. The basketball teams moved to the new Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium for the 2017–18 season.

The High Point Panthers are the 16 varsity athletic teams that represent High Point University (HPU) in High Point, North Carolina, United States. All of HPU's varsity teams compete at the NCAA Division I level. All sports except men's lacrosse compete in the Big South Conference. The men's lacrosse team joined the Southern Conference July 1, 2014. The Panthers joined Division I in 1999, after having been NCAA Division II and being members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) prior to 1992. HPU was a founding member of the North State Conference, which is now the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas.

They finished the season 17–14, 12–4 in Big South play to be champions of the North Division. They lost in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament to Liberty. They were invited to the 2013 CIT where they lost in the first round to UC Irvine.

They defeated Longwood in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament to advance to the semifinals where they lost to UNC Asheville. As a regular season conference champion and #1 seed in their conference tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to South Carolina.

They received an automatic bid to the WNIT where they lost to Ohio in the first round

The Panthers, led by third-year head coach Tubby Smith, played their home games at the Millis Athletic Convocation Center in High Point, North Carolina, as members of the Big South Conference. This was the Panthers' final season at the Millis Center, with the new Qubein Center opening for 2021–22.
The 2021–22 High Point Panthers men's basketball team represented High Point University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Panthers, led by fourth-year head coach Tubby Smith through the first 26 games of the season and by interim head coach G. G. Smith for the remainder of the season, played their home games at the newly opened Qubein Center in High Point, North Carolina as members of the Big South Conference. With the reintroduction of divisions for the first time since the 2013–14 season, the Panthers played in the North division. They finished the season 14–17, 7–9 in Big South play to finish in a tie for third place in the North division. As the No. 7 seed in the Big South Tournament, they defeated Hampton in the first round before losing to Winthrop in the quarterfinals.
The 2022 Big South Conference Women's Basketball Tournament is the postseason women's basketball tournament for the Big South Conference for the 2021–22 season. It is being held from March 1-6, 2022 with all tournament games played at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is the first time since the 2016 edition that the tournament has been held at a single neutral site location. The tournament winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The defending champions are the High Point Panthers.
