Mate Pavić was in contention to reclaim the World No. 1 ranking, but he failed to do so after he and Nikola Mektić lost in the semifinal to Ivan Dodig and Filip Polášek. [1] Polášek became the first male Slovak player to make a Grand Slam doubles final and win the men's doubles title. [2]

Filip Polášek Slovak tennis player

Filip Polášek is a professional tennis player from Slovakia. He is primarily a doubles specialist reaching career-high rankings of World No. 7 in doubles in February 2020 and World No. 555 in singles in November 2007. In 2019, Polášek won his first Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati with partner Ivan Dodig. In 2021, he won his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open, again with Dodig. Polášek made history by becoming the first male Slovak player to reach a Grand Slam doubles final and win the men's doubles title.

Łukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo were the defending champions, but they were defeated in the second round by Jonathan Erlich and Marcin Matkowski.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut won the Men's Doubles tennis title at the 2018 French Open, defeating Oliver Marach and Mate Pavić in the final, 6–2, 7–6(7–4). Herbert and Mahut were the third all-French team to reach the French Open men's doubles final in six years.

Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies won the Men's Doubles tennis title at the 2019 French Open defeating Jeremy Chardy and Fabrice Martin in the final 6-2, 7-6(7–3). Chardy and Martin were the fourth all-French team to reach the French Open men's doubles final in seven years, and for the second time in three years none of the four players had previously played in a Grand Slam men's doubles final.

Latisha Chan and Ivan Dodig were the defending champions and became the first team in the Open Era to successfully defend a French Open mixed doubles title, defeating Gabriela Dabrowski and Mate Pavić in a rematch of the 2018 final, 6–1, 7–6(7–5).

Mike Bryan and Jack Sock were the defending champions, but Sock could not participate due to injury. Mike Bryan played alongside his brother Bob, but lost in the third round to Nicolas Mahut and Édouard Roger-Vasselin.

Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah won their second consecutive Grand Slam men's doubles title, defeating Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the final, 6–4, 7–5 to win the Men's Doubles tennis title at the 2019 US Open. Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury won the Men's Doubles tennis title at the 2020 Australian Open, defeating wildcards Max Purcell and Luke Saville in the final, 6–4, 6–2.

Barbora Krejčíková and Rajeev Ram were the defending champions, but Ram chose not to participate. Krejčíková played alongside Nikola Mektić, and successfully defended the title, defeating Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jamie Murray in the final 5–7, 6–4, [10–1].

Ivan Dodig and Filip Polášek were the defending champions but lost in the first round to Pablo Carreño Busta and Alex de Minaur.

Mate Pavić and Bruno Soares defeated no. 8 seeds Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektić in the final, 7–5, 6–3 to win the Men's Doubles tennis title at the 2020 US Open. This was the first time since the 2000 US Open that an unseeded team had won the US Open Men's Doubles title. With this win, Pavić won his second Grand Slam men's doubles title after having won the 2018 Australian Open, and Soares won his third Grand Slam men's doubles title after having won the 2016 Australian Open and 2016 US Open.

The 2021 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament is a men's tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts. It is taking place at the Rotterdam Ahoy arena in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, between 1 and 7 March 2021. It is the 48th edition of the Rotterdam Open, and part of the ATP Tour 500 series on the 2021 ATP Tour. The tournament also included a Men's Wheelchair Tennis Singles and Doubles draw.

The Murray River Open was a new addition to the ATP Tour in 2021.

Barbora Krejčíková and Nikola Mektić were the defending champions, but both players chose to participate with different partners. Krejčíková played alongside Rajeev Ram and successfully defended the title. Mektić partnered Barbora Strýcová, but lost in the first round to alternates Hayley Carter and Sander Gillé.

Rohan Bopanna and Wesley Koolhof were the defending champions, but they decided not to participate this year.
