AKM Nazmul Hasan is a major general in the Bangladesh Army who is the incumbent director general of the Special Security Force. Prior to that he was DG of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). [1] Prior to that position, he served as director general of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party. He also served as general officer commanding (GOC) of 11th Infantry Division and area commander, Bogura Area. [2]

Early life and education

Hasan was born on 2 January 1969 in Faridpur District, East Pakistan, Pakistan. [3] He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Chittagong and Masters on Defence Studies (MDS) degree from the National University. [3] He has also completed Army Staff Course from Defence Services Command and Staff College and National Defence Course from National Defence College. [4]

Career

Nazmul Hasan joined Bangladesh Military Academy with 18th BMA Long course on 15 July 1986 and was commissioned on 24 June 1988 in the infantry corps. [3]

Hasan served as the General Staff Officer Grade-3 (Training) at the School of Infantry and Tactics. [3] He carried out counter insurgency activities in Rangamati district in the 1990s during the Chittagong Hill Tracts conflict. [3] He served as the Quarter Master General of Bangladesh Army's Composite Brigade. [3] At Bangladesh Army Headquarters, he served as the Deputy Provost Marshal. [3] He was the Colonel General Staff at Comilla Cantonment. [3] He served as the Dhaka Detachment commander. [3]

Hasan served as GOC of Bogura Area for more than 2 years. [5] He also served as Director of Counter Intelligence Bureau at Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. [3] Nazmul served in the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a platoon commander in 1994 at Bihac Pocket and Officer Commanding of Sector Reserve at Nyala, Darfur, Sudan in 2010. [6] Hasan has commanded infantry battalions and military police units. [6]

Hasan was the general officer commanding of the 11th Infantry Division based in Bogra Cantonment. [3] Hasan join Bangladesh Ansar and VDP on 21 July 2022. He replaced Major General Mizanur Rahman Shamim. [7] [8] He is also the chairman of Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank. [9]

On 17 January 2023, the government appointed Hasan the director general of Border Guards Bangladesh, a paramilitary unit responsible for guarding the borders of Bangladesh. [10] On 30 January 2024, Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui was appointed director general of the Border Guards Bangladesh replacing Hasan. [11]

Prior to join the current appointment, he served as GOC of the 24th Infantry Division and Area Commander, Chattogram Area. Major General Shakil Ahmed SPP, BGBM, nswc, afwc, psc is a two-star general of the Bangladesh Army. Currently he is serving as General Officer Commanding of 66th Infantry Division & Area Commander, Rangpur Area. He served as the Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Prior to this appointment, he served as Adjutant general of Army Headquarters. Before that he has served as the General Officers Commanding of 19th Infantry Division in ghatail.

AKM Aminul Haque is a major general of the Bangladesh Army and director general of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party. He is the chairman of the Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank.

Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui is a major general in the Bangladesh Army who is the incumbent director general of the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Prior to his promotion to Major General, he served as the Director of Army Sports Control Board as a Brigadier General.
