Abhay Chudasma

Abhay Chudasama is an officer in the Indian Police Service.He was born in ratanpur(GA) village, vallabhipur tehsil in Bhavnagar district. He graduated with the 1999 cadre. [1]

The CBI arrested Chudasama in April 2010 for involvement in the death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh. [2] [3] CBI charged him for various activities, including collaborating with Sohrabuddin in operating a protection racket. [4]

In August 2014 the Gujarat Police reinstated Chudasama as an officer. [3] In April 2015 the court discharged Chudasama saying that there was no evidence against him. [5]

In June 2015 the Gujarat government promoted Chudasama to the rank of Deputy inspector general of police. [1]

In 2018 the brother of the deceased Sohrabuddin made a that CBI made a mistake in reporting is testimony, and that he had never accused Chudasama. [6]

In 2020 Chudasama transferred posts from Vadodara to Gandhinagar, leaving his former post to fellow officer H.G. Patel. [7]

During the incident, a Hindutvadi mob targeted the Sheikh family who ran the bakery and had taken refuge inside, resulting in the deaths of fourteen people. This case has come to symbolize the carnage in 2002 Gujarat riots that followed the Godhra train burning. All the 21 accused were acquitted by the court due to shoddy police work and issues with evidence.

On 24 September 2002, multiple terrorists attacked the Akshardham Temple Complex in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India, killing 33 and injuring more than 80. India's National Security Guard intervened and ended the siege the next day, killing the terrorists. Six accused were later arrested by Gujarat Police. The Supreme Court acquitted all six persons in 2014.

The Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case is a criminal case in the Gujarat state after the death of Sohrabuddin Anwarhussain Sheikh on November 26, 2005. A special CBI court acquitted all the 22 accused in the case in the alleged encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife.

The Gulbarg Society massacre took place on 28 February 2002, during the 2002 Gujarat riots, when a crowd started stone pelting the Gulbarg Society, a Muslim neighbourhood in the eastern part of Chamanpura, Ahmedabad. Most of the houses were burnt, and at least 35 victims, including a former Congress Member of Parliament, Ehsan Jafri, were burnt alive, while 31 others went missing after the incident, later presumed dead, bringing the total deaths to 69.

The Ishrat Jahan case is an ongoing case where officers of the Ahmedabad Police Crime Branch and members of the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of Ahmedabad are accused of fatally shooting four terrorist suspect people unlawfully on 15 June 2004 in an "encounter killing".

Jan Sangharsh Manch is a voluntary civil rights organisation established in Gujarat, India. It was founded by Mukul Sinha, lawyer and trade union leader, and his wife Nirjhari Sinha, human rights activist, parents of Alt News founder Pratik Sinha. The group represented the 2002 Gujarat violence victims and legally fought the Gujarat state government, in the Shah-Nanavati inquiry. The organisation has also fought for justice to the families of the victims in the fake encounter cases and exposed claims of the police and Modi's government branding them as terrorists to the public. The legal interventions by the organisation led the Supreme Court in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case to pass the investigation from the Gujarat police to the Central Bureau of Investigation. This set a precedent as all the other cases taken up by JSM were handed over to the CBI and the investigation in all these cases established them as extrajudicial killings.

Dahyaji Gobarji Vanzara, popularly known as D. G. Vanzara, is the former Inspector-General of Police (IG) from Gujarat, India. He was in judicial custody from 2007 until his bail in 2015 on charges of having conducted a series of extrajudicial killings, while heading the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS). He was acquitted in Sohrabuddin case in 2017.

Tulsiram Prajapati was a man, who was killed while in custody at 5 am on 26 December 2005. The case is widely believed to have been an encounter killing by the Gujarat Police. DIG D.G. Vanzara has been in jail for seven years, on charges of having organised this encounter, among others.

Rajkumar Pandian is an Indian Police Service officer. He came to attention over claims in the death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh. From 2016 he was Inspector-general of police in Junagadh, even while the Sohrabuddin case was in courts. In 2018 the Bombay High Court upheld his discharge from this case.

Ashish Pandya is a Dy.SP in the Indian Police Service, in the state of Gujarat. He came to prominence in the media as the leader of the police force accused of a encounter in the Tulsiram Prajapati killing.

Sylvester Daniel is a person known for having a criminal history and being a key witness in the cases for the death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati killing.
