Divya Gopikumar, professionally known as Abhirami Gopikumar or Abhirami (born July 1983) is an Indian actress and reality show judge. She has acted predominantly in Tamil and Malayalam films and few credits in Telugu and Kannada films. [1] Abhirami went on to established herself as an leading actress in the 2000s across the Malayalam and Tamil language industries.

After a 10 year hiatus, she returned back to the film industry in 2014 and acted in multiple films as a supporting actress until 2021 where she got a role as one of lead actress in the film Maara after 17 years. She also became a reality show judge through the show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs (season 3) . [2]
She was born as Divya Gopikumar [3] in July 1983, [3] to Tamil parents settled from Kerala, Gopikumar and Pushpa [3] [4] in Kerala. She attended Christ Nagar English High School and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, in Trivandrum and did predegree training from Mar Ivanios College, before graduating in programs for psychology and communications from the College of Wooster in Ohio. [5]
Her family migrated to the United States in 2004 when she got a job there. Her parents are yoga instructors in Ohio. [6]
Abhirami made her debut in director Adoor Gopalakrishnan's film Kathapurushan . [7] While in college, Abhirami worked as a TV anchor for the program Top Ten which aired on the Asianet channel, [4] which according to Abhirami was "quite popular" and got her a film offer. [7] She also appeared in the 100-episode Malayalam serial Akshaya Pathram, directed by Sreekumaran Thampi. [7] She changed her screen name to Abhirami, the character name of the heroine of the film Gunaa , being "obsessed with the role and the name". [8]
She had a small role in the Malayalam film Pathram in 1999 and in the series Mercara directed by Jude Attipetty. Later she acted in the films Millennium Stars , Njangal Santhushtaranu , and Sradha before shifting to Tamil cinema. Her first Tamil film was Vaanavil (2001) opposite Arjun, which was a "big hit" [4] and was followed by Middle Class Madhavan and Samudhiram . A notable film in her career was Virumaandi , in which she appeared as a Tamil village girl from Madurai opposite Kamal Haasan. [3] Besides Tamil and Malayalam, she has appeared in Telugu and Kannada films and was a notable Tollywood actress. [9] In 2003, she appeared opposite Upendra in the film Raktha Kanneeru [10] and opposite Shiva Rajkumar in Sri Ram. In 2004, she retired from the film industry and settled in the United States for her studies. She went on to work as the marketing director of an MNC there. [11]
In 2013, Abhirami was the voice of Pooja Kumar in both parts of Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam [12] and she went on to host Rishimoolam, a talk show on the Tamil television channel Puthuyugam. [5] [13]
Abhirami is married to Rahul Pavanan, grandson of writer Pavanan. [5] [11] [14] The couple have an adopted daughter named Kalki. [15]

Parthasarathy Srinivasan, known professionally as Kamal Haasan, is an Indian actor, film director, film producer, screenwriter, choreographer, playback singer, lyricist, television presenter, social activist and politician who works in Tamil cinema. Besides Tamil films, he has also appeared in some Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali films. Considered as one of the finest actors in Indian cinema, Haasan is also known for introducing many new film technologies and film making techniques to the Indian film industry. He has won numerous accolades, including four National Film Awards, nine Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, four Nandi Awards, one Rashtrapati Award, two Filmfare Awards and eighteen Filmfare Awards South. He was awarded the Kalaimamani Award in 1984, the Padma Shri in 1990, the Padma Bhushan in 2014 and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Chevalier) in 2016.

Raja Paarvai is a 1981 Indian Tamil-language romance film directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. It was simultaneously made and released as Amavasya Chandrudu in Telugu. The story was written by Kamal Haasan, for whom the film was his 100th as an actor and first as a producer. The score and soundtrack was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. It is loosely based on the 1972 film Butterflies Are Free. Despite being a box office failure, the film received critical acclaim, and Haasan's performance won him the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actor. Thota Tharani made his debut as an art director with the film.

Gunaa is a 1991 Indian Tamil-language psychological romantic drama film directed by Santhana Bharathi and co-written by Sab John. The film stars Kamal Haasan, Rekha and newcomer Roshini in her only screen appearance. It revolves around a newly released psychiatric patient (Haasan) who kidnaps an heiress (Roshini) to make her fall in love with him. He believes she is an avatar of goddess Abhirami and it is his destiny to marry her.
Unarchigal (transl. Feelings) is a 1976 Indian Tamil-language film co-written and directed by R. C. Sakthi in his directorial debut. The film stars Kamal Haasan and Srividya. It is a highly sensuous film which deals with sexually transmitted diseases, and subsequently the film ran into trouble with the censor board, prompting a delay in its release. The film was a remake of Malayalam film Raasaleela and released in 1975, before the original had come out.

Uttama Villain is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language comedy drama film directed by Ramesh Aravind and written by Kamal Haasan. The film was presented by N. Lingusamy in association with Kamal Haasan and produced by S. Chandrahasan for Raaj Kamal Films International and N. Subash Chandrabose for Thirupathi Brothers Film Media. It features an ensemble cast that includes Kamal Hassan, K. Viswanath, K. Balachander, Jayaram, Andrea Jeremiah, Pooja Kumar, Nassar, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Urvashi in prominent roles. This is the posthumous film of actor and director, K. Balachander following his death in December 2014.
