The Democratic Rally is a Christian democratic and liberal-conservative political party in Cyprus led by Annita Demetriou. The party was founded on 4 July 1976 by veteran politician Glafcos Clerides. Two leaders of the party have served as presidents of Cyprus, Clerides from 1993 until 2003 and Nicos Anastasiades from 2013 to 2023.
The Athens Polytechnic uprising occurred in November 1973 as a massive student demonstration of popular rejection of the Greek military junta of 1967–1974. It began on 14 November 1973, escalated to an open anti-junta revolt, and ended in bloodshed in the early morning of 17 November after a series of events starting with a tank crashing through the gates of the Athens Polytechnic. It is believed that approximately 40 people were killed by the Greek army on that day, and more than 2,000 were injured. This was the first event in a series of political crises that ultimately led to the fall of the junta in the summer of 1974, just a few months later.
The National People's Front is a far-right and ultranationalist political party in Cyprus that was founded in 2008. It has been described as neo-fascist or neo-nazi, although these descriptions are denied by the party. It describes its ideology as "popular and social nationalism". As of May 2011, it has been approved as a legal political party.
Ioanna-Maria Gertsou is a representative of the Greek guide dog movement, through "Lara Guide-Dog School" a non - profit organisation that she co-founded in 2008. She is visually impaired due to retinopathy of prematurity. She is mostly known as "Lara" is the first guide dog related organisation of Greece. She is an activist, promoting human diversity, guide dog access, physical and electronic accessibility and animal rights.
Michalis Paraskevas is a Cypriot lawyer who has been described as an activist and as a politician. His activism work primarily concerned the rights and well-being of refugees, and opposition to the austerity policies of the Cypriot government. He was an independent candidate for the European Parliament.
The Greece Amputee Football Association is the Greek governing body of amputee football and represents Greece at international events and competitions. In February 2016, Amputee Football Greece became the 14th member of the European Amputee Football Federation (EAFF).
The Greek Solution is a political party in Greece founded by Kyriakos Velopoulos. The party is right-wing to far-right and has been described as ideologically ultranationalist, national conservative, and right-wing populist. The party first entered the European Parliament when it got 4.18% of the vote in the 2019 European Parliament election in Greece, winning one seat and the Hellenic Parliament when it garnered 3.7% of the vote in the 2019 Greek legislative election
The 2024 European Parliament elections in Cyprus was held on 9 June 2024 as part of the 2024 European Parliament election. This was the fifth parliamentary election since Cyprus’s EU accession in 2004.
Presidential elections were held in Cyprus on 5 February 2023. No candidate received a majority of the vote in the first round, so a runoff was held on 12 February. Incumbent president Nicos Anastasiades of the Democratic Rally (DISY), who won the presidential elections in 2013 and 2018, was ineligible to run due to the two-term limit mandated by the Constitution of Cyprus.
