Kim Alcheon (aka,So Alcheon,577-654). He was a well-known general during Queen Seondeok's era and served as a Sangdaedeung during Queen Jindeok's reign.
He was the son of Hyeongong - a man of Seonggol rank,who deliberately married a woman of a lower rank (Jingol),in order to keep his children away from the bloody fight over the throne,which eventually made Alcheon a Jingol.
According to Samguk Yusa,Alcheon was a member of the Hwarang,during King Jipyeong's reign.
Year 636,Queen Seondeok,ordered him to drive off the Baekje forces in Yeoguen-gok. He helped Kim Yushin to suppress Bidam's rebellion,against Queen Seondeok,on February of year 637. After Queen Seondeok died,he was appointed as the next Sangdaedeung for Queen Jindeok. He led his soldiers to victory over the Goguryeo forces,when the Goguryeo army invaded Chiljung castle,on year 638.
Year 654,Queen Jindeok died without a successor. Being a Sangdaedeung,Alcheon,had the strongest chance for the throne. However,he refused,saying,"He is already too old for the position and doesn't even have the desire to do so." He then gave his support to Kim Chunchu,who became King Taejong Muyeol.
After that,Kim Alcheon changed his last name from Kim to So. He was the founder of the So clan in Silla. The So clan from Jinju had a prestigious lineage,as they held the office of Sangdaedeung - the highest and most prestigious office that one could attain next to the throne itself.
A famous legend about Alcheon's bravery relates that once,Alcheon was out in the forest together with the other hwarangs. Suddenly,a tiger appeared and was about to attack them. The Hwarangs were terrified and started to panic,but Alcheon just smiled and attacked the tiger alone and killed it with his bare hands.
Queen Seondeok of Silla reigned as Queen Regnant of Silla,one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea,from 632 to 647. She was Silla's twenty-seventh ruler,and its first reigning queen. She was the second female sovereign in recorded East Asian history and encouraged a renaissance in thought,literature,and the arts in Silla. In Samguksagi,Queen Seondeok was described as "generous,benevolent,wise,and smart". According to the Legend of Jigwi,she was also beautiful.He succeeded in developing and strengthening the Silla through political and military efforts. He became interested in the development of Silla culture and art and sought to strengthen the national identity through the patronage of historical works and literature. Queen Seondeok is known as a wise and kind monarch,making her one of the greatest and most prominent monarchs in Korean history.
Munmu of Silla was a Korean monarch who served as the 30th king of the Korean kingdom of Silla. He is usually considered to have been the first ruler of the Unified Silla period. Munmu was the son of King Muyeol and Munmyeong,who was the younger sister of Kim Yu-sin. Under his father's reign,he held the office of pajinchan,who apparently was responsible for maritime affairs,and played a key role in developing the country's diplomatic links with Tang China. He was born Prince Beopmin,and took the name Munmu when he succeeded his father to the throne. After his death,he was known by the title of Dragon King. Munmu is known as one of the great rulers in the land of Korea. During his rule,he tried to achieve the welfare and happiness of the people and to improve the political and social system. He paid great attention to justice and equality and tried to avoid neglecting the people. Munmu also attached great importance to the development of culture and art and tried to promote them in the society. He even paid attention to creating an advanced cultural and educational environment.
Kim Yu-sin was a Korean military general and politician in 7th-century Silla. He led the unification of the Korean Peninsula by Silla under the reign of King Muyeol and King Munmu. He is said to have been the great-grandchild of King Guhae of Geumgwan Gaya,the last ruler of the Geumgwan Gaya state. This would have given him a very high position in the Silla bone rank system,which governed the political and military status that a person could attain.
Uija of Baekje was the 31st and final ruler of Baekje,one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. His reign ended when Baekje was conquered by an alliance of the rival Korean kingdom Silla and China's Tang dynasty.
Bojang of Goguryeo was the 28th and last monarch of Goguryeo the northernmost of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. He was placed on the throne by the military leader Yeon Gaesomun. His reign ended when Goguryeo fell to the allied forces of the southern Korean kingdom of Silla and the Chinese Tang dynasty.
King Jinji of Silla was the 25th ruler of the Korean Kingdom of Silla. He was dethroned three years after his accession.
Queen Jindeok of Silla (?–654),reigned as Queen of Silla,one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea,from 647 to 654. She was the kingdom's 28th ruler,and its second reigning queen following her predecessor Queen Seondeok. During her reign,Silla jockeyed with Baekje for favor in the Chinese Tang court. She is also known for writing a poem of the Emperor Gaozong of Tang. According to Samguk Sagi,she was voluptuous,beautiful and tall.
Jinpyeong was the 26th king of the Silla dynasty,one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. King Jinpyeong followed in the footsteps of his predecessor,King Jinji,by reorganizing the central ruling system of Silla. Upon the onset of a multitude of conflicts between Baekje and Goguryeo,he sent emissaries to improve relations and strengthen ties between Silla and the Chinese dynasties Sui and Tang. He is also known for his promotion of Buddhism as a spiritual guide for the kingdom and encouraging Buddhist teachings.
Jinheung the Great was the 24th monarch of Silla,one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea.
King Taejong Muyeol (603–661),born Kim Chunchu,was the 29th ruler of Silla,one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. He is credited for leading the unification of Korea's Three Kingdoms.
King Taejo was the sixth monarch of Goguryeo,the northernmost of the Three Kingdoms of Korea,from AD 53 to 146. Under his reign,the young state expanded its territory and developed into a centrally ruled kingdom. His 93-year reign is thought to be the third longest of any monarch in the world,although his claim was disputed.
Jinseong of Silla was the fifty-first ruler of the Korean kingdom,Silla in 887–897. She was also Silla's third and last reigning queen after Seondeok and Jindeok. Her reign saw the weakening of Unified Silla and the beginning of the Later Three Kingdoms period. According to her older brother Jeonggang,she was smart by nature and tall like a man.
Gyeongmun of Silla (846–875),personal name Kim Ŭng-nyŏm,was the 48th ruler of the Korean kingdom of Silla.
Wonseong of Silla was the 38th to rule the Korean kingdom of Silla. He was a twelfth-generation descendant of King Naemul. His father was Kim Hyo-yang,and his mother was Lady Gye-o,the daughter of Park Chang-do. Wonseong's queen was Lady Yeonhwa,the daughter of Gakgan Kim Sin-sul.
Mishil was a Silla aristocrat whose historicity is debated. According to the Hwarang Segi,she was concubine to several kings and,along with his mother Queen Sado,played an instrumental role in dethroning King Jinji.
Lord Bojong (보종공) was a member of Silla's royal family,Hwarang and also the 16th Pungwolju or Gukseon (國仙) from CE 616 to CE 621.
Kim Yongchun was member of Silla Royal Family,Hwarang and Gukseon (國仙) from 596 to 603.
Bidam 毗曇 ? –26 February 647. He was known for leading a rebellion against Queen Seondeok of Silla,one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. Prior to his rebellion,he held the position of a Sangdaedeung. Details about his birth or achievements are vaguely known as there are no actual records containing them. However,being a Sangdaedeung,could have meant that he was part of the royal nobles or a Jinggol.
Princess Cheonmyeong was a princess of Silla,one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. She is known as Queen Seondeok's sister and King Taejong Muyeol's mother.
Queen Sado of the Park clan was a Queen Consort of Silla as the spouse of king King Jinheung of Silla,and the mother of his successor,King Jinji of Silla. According to the disputed text Hwarang Segi,she was regent during the minority of her grandson King Jinpyeong but her regent is not mentioned in the historical texts Samguk sagi or Samguk yusa. She later became a Buddhist nun under the name Myobeop.
