The Union for Democratic Renewal was a coalition of political parties in the Republic of the Congo. The coalition was led by Bernard Kolélas, who was also the leader of the coalition's largest party, the Congolese Movement for Democracy and Integral Development (MCDDI). The URD parties supported the transitional government of Prime Minister André Milongo (1991–1992) and opposed the National Alliance for Democracy (AND), which included the Pan-African Union for Social Democracy (UPADS) and the Congolese Labour Party (PCT). In the parliamentary election held in June–July 1992, the AND parties won a slight majority of seats in the National Assembly and UPADS leader Pascal Lissouba was victorious over Kolélas in the August 1992 presidential election.
The Africa Liberal Network (ALN) is an organization composed of 44 political parties from 30 countries in Africa. It is an associated organisation of Liberal International, the political family to which Liberal Democratic parties belong. The ALN serves to promote liberal objectives and principles throughout the continent.
The Camp of the Autonomous Islands was a political alliance in the Comoros. It advocated for greater autonomy for the three islands and for more power to be given to the islands' governors.
The Democracy Alliance is a network of progressive donors who coordinate their political donations to groups that the Alliance has endorsed. As of 2015, the organization has approximately 110 partners who are required to contribute at least $200,000 a year to groups the Democracy Alliance vets and recommends. The Alliance has helped distribute approximately $500 million to liberal organizations since its founding in 2005. Members of the Democracy Alliance include billionaires George Soros and Tom Steyer.
Presidential elections were held in Burkina Faso on 21 November 2010. Incumbent president Blaise Compaoré was re-elected with 80% of the vote. The elections were marred by claims of widespread fraud.
Parliamentary elections were held in Niger on 14 February 1993. They were the first multi-party elections in the country since independence in 1960, and followed constitutional changes approved in a referendum the previous year. Although the ruling National Movement for the Development of Society won the most seats, several opposition parties formed the Alliance of the Forces of Change following the elections, between them controlling 50 seats. Voter turnout was just 32.7%.
The National Alliance for Development and Democracy is a political alliance in Benin. Its current president is Valentin Aditi Houde and is supportive of the Yayi Boni government.
