Andrew Julian Goldberg OBE , professionally known as Andy Goldberg, is a British orthopaedic surgeon specialising in ankle disorders. He is an honorary consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London and Stanmore. [1] He serves as faculty at University College London dealing with ankle and foot surgery. [2] Goldberg runs a research programme focusing on ankle arthritis, the subtalar joint [3] and stem cells. [4] [5] He sits on the AOFAS editorial board for the SAGE Journal, Foot and Ankle Orthopaedics (FAO) [6] as well as the Editorial Committee [7] and Medical Advisory Committee of the National Joint Registry for England & Wales. He has published more than 70 publications [8] and authored the textbooks Surgical Talk, [9] and Surgery: Problems and Solutions, [10] distributed by World Scientific Publishing and is the editor of The Atlas of Ankle Replacements. [11] He consults a startup dealing with improving high heeled shoes. [12] [13]

Education and training

In 1994 Andrew Goldberg graduated from St. Mary's School of Medicine, Imperial College London. [14] In 1997, he was admitted to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, for the Higher Surgical Training program. [15] In 1998, he attended the Fellowship Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS). In 2006 he became a Doctor of Medicine (MD), University of London. In 2006, he completed Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST). [15]

He was awarded an OBE in the 2011 New Year Honours for services to medicine. [16] [17]

Having recognised that training others could greatly increase his capacity to help, Nott established the David Nott Foundation, along with his wife Elly, to organise training in emergency surgery for others working in war and disaster zones. He has been honoured for this dangerous work and is now often styled the "Indiana Jones of surgery".

J. I. P. James British orthopaedic surgeon

John Ivor Pulsford James was a British orthopaedic surgeon. He was professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Edinburgh from 1958 to 1979. Most commonly known as "JIP", he was secretary then president of the British Orthopaedic Association which later awarded him its honorary fellowship. James attracted orthopaedic specialists to work in Edinburgh, encouraging them to develop an interest in a specialist area of orthopaedics, and in this way he was able to establish a comprehensive regional orthopaedic service. He made contributions to hand surgery and surgical treatment of scoliosis, and was a prime mover in promoting specialist training and qualification in orthopaedic surgery in the UK.

Arkyl Staveley Gough was a British surgeon who made regular contributions to medical journals and served on several medical committees. Also known as A. Staveley Gough, he was made FRCS in 1929, an Officer of the Order of St John of Jerusalem in 1966, and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1975.
