Arne Wold

Arne Wold (26 September 1895 – 19 October 1987) was a Norwegian journalist and illustrator.

He was born in Kristiania. He took his education at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry between 1911 and 1916, studying under Philip Barlag, Eivind Nielsen, Hans Ødegaard and Johan Nordhagen. He then spent two years at Christiania Clichéanstalt. He was hired in the newspaper Nationen in 1919, where he worked as an illustrator until 1974. After a stay in Florence in 1922, he also worked as an art critic in Nationen from 1922 to 1961. He also illustrated books, Christmas magazines and periodicals. Some of his illustrations were released as books, [1] and they have been used by later scholars to illustrate reactions to political debates. [2] He also drew comics, for instance a Bør Børson comic series in the magazine Nynorsk Vekeblad . [3]

Oslo is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Founded in the year 1040 as Ánslo, and established as a kaupstad or trading place in 1048 by Harald Hardrada, the city was elevated to a bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haakon V of Norway around 1300. Personal unions with Denmark from 1397 to 1523 and again from 1536 to 1814 reduced its influence, and with Sweden from 1814 to 1905 it functioned as a co-official capital. After being destroyed by a fire in 1624, during the reign of King Christian IV, a new city was built closer to Akershus Fortress and named Christiania in the king's honour. It was established as a municipality (formannskapsdistrikt) on 1 January 1838. The city's name was spelled Kristiania between 1877 and 1897 by state and municipal authorities. In 1925 the city was renamed Oslo.

The Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry was established in 1818.

Eivind Nielsen was a Norwegian painter, illustrator and teacher.

At his death in autumn 1987 he was called "the last of the pioneers of newspaper illustration". [4]

Bør Børson jr. is a satirical novel from the boom period during World War I, written by Norwegian writer Johan Falkberget. It was first published as a feuilleton in the satirical magazine Hvepsen in 1917, then again printed as a feuilleton in the newspaper Nidaros, and issued as a book in 1920. The story was a great success, and has later been adapted into two films, a comedy, a musical, and a comic series.

Arne Taraldsen was a Norwegian artist and resistance member during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany. He started his drawing career with underground publications during World War II.

Tom Tellefsen was a Norwegian actor. He was born in Asker. He was married to actress Rut Tellefsen from 1955 to 1962. He made his film debut in 1949, in Arne Skouen's Gategutter, and also played in Circus Fandango from 1954 and Blodveien from 1955. His stage debut was at Det Norske Teatret in 1959, and he worked at this theatre until his retirement in 2001. Among his later films are Smuglere from 1968, Balladen om mestertyven Ole Høiland from 1970, Bør Børson Jr. and Kimen from 1974 and Hard asfalt from 1986. He also contributed to television and radio.

Øyvind Sørensen was a Norwegian illustrator. He was born in Fredrikstad. He worked most of his career as an illustrator for the newspaper Aftenposten, over a period of fifty years, and also for satirical magazines. His works are represented in various museums and institutions, including the National Gallery of Norway, Oslo Bymuseum and Bergen Museum.
