Ashot Garegini Abrahamian (Armenian : Աշոտ Գարեգինի Աբրահամյան; January 31, 1903 – April 30, 1983) was a Soviet Armenian historian.
Abrahamian was born in the village of Kechut. After studying at an Armenian school in Nakhchivan and Gevorgian Seminary in Etchmiadzin, he worked as a priest in Khachik between 1920 and 1926. He studied history at Yerevan State University, graduating in 1933. Since 1938 until his death, he taught at the university in various positions. [1]
His research areas included the works of medieval Armenian scholars such as Anania Shirakatsi, Hovhannes Imastaser. In 1944 he published the first complete collection of Shirakatsi's works after years of research at the Matenadaran. [2]
Anania Shirakatsi was a 7th-century Armenian polymath and natural philosopher, author of extant works covering mathematics, astronomy, geography, chronology, and other fields. Little is known for certain of his life outside of his own writings, but he is considered the father of the exact and natural sciences in Armenia—the first Armenian mathematician, astronomer, and cosmographer.
Ashot Garegini Hovhannisian was an Armenian Marxist historian, theorist and Communist official.
Ashot III was a king of Armenia, ruling the medieval kingdom of Bagratid Armenia from 952/53–77. Known as Ashot III the Merciful and acknowledged by foreign rulers as the Shahanshah of Mets Hayk', he moved his royal seat of residence to Ani and oversaw its development and of the kingdom as a whole. Armenia reached the height of its golden era during his reign and that of his sons and successors, Smbat II (977–89) and Gagik I (990–1020).

Ashot Melkonian was an Armenian artist associated with Neorealistic artistic style and Honorary Artist of Armenia. He mainly devoted himself to landscape and portraits painting, as well as murals. He is one of the founders of Neorealism in Armenian art. Art critic Shahen Khachatrian referred to Melkonian as "an artist of the generation of the 1960s that provided a new impetus to the development of Armenian art. Reality is a characteristic feature of Ashot's art". Honorary artist of Armenia Hakob Hakobian referring to Melkonian wrote "a brilliant composer of scenes, an author of exquisite portraits and landscapes, a master of gentlest and subtlest painting ... Melkonian is the pride of our painting school." According to art critic L.S. Zinger (Moscow), Melkonian's art is "a mix of humanistic tradition and his Armenian outlook."
