The Atwima Nwabiagya District formerly the Atwima District is one of the twenty-seven (27) districts in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Its capital is Nkawie. In 2003, part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on November 12, 2003, to form the new Atwima Mponua District.

The Atwima District is a former district that was located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The Atwima Mponua District was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on November 12, 2003, the remainder is since then officially called the Atwima Nwabiagya District.

The Atwima Mponua District is one of the twenty-seven (27) districts in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, and is the westernmost district in the Ashanti Region. Its capital is Nyinahin. The district was created out of the former Atwima District by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on November 12, 2003; which the remaining part is renamed as Atwima Nwabiagya District.

The district is among the new districts and municipalities created in 2008 by the then President, John Kufuor. Former Head of State General Ignatious Kutu Akyeampong hailed from the district and is buried in his home town of Hwidiem, a town in the district. Afia Kobi Girls Senior High School is located at Trabuom. Renamed after the late Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi, the school was formerly called Atwimaman Secondary School. It was opened in 1975.
