Baleno Holdings Limited (Chinese :班尼路; pinyin :Bānnílù; Jyutping :baan1 nei4 lou6) is a Hong Kong clothing brand sold in Asia. It is one of the most successful fashion brands to expand into China since opening up its retail markets. [1]

Chinese language family of languages

Chinese is a group of related, but in many cases not mutually intelligible, language varieties, forming the Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. Chinese is spoken by the Han majority and many minority ethnic groups in China. About 1.2 billion people speak some form of Chinese as their first language.

Hanyu Pinyin, often abbreviated to pinyin, is the official romanization system for Standard Chinese in mainland China and to some extent in Taiwan. It is often used to teach Standard Mandarin Chinese, which is normally written using Chinese characters. The system includes four diacritics denoting tones. Pinyin without tone marks is used to spell Chinese names and words in languages written with the Latin alphabet, and also in certain computer input methods to enter Chinese characters.

Jyutping romanization scheme for Cantonese

Jyutping is a romanisation system for Cantonese developed by the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong (LSHK), an academic group, in 1993. Its formal name is The Linguistic Society of Hong Kong Cantonese Romanisation Scheme. The LSHK promotes the use of this romanisation system.

Kwai Chung geographical object

Kwai Chung is an urban area within Tsuen Wan New Town in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Together with Tsing Yi Island, it is part of the Kwai Tsing District District of Hong Kong. Kwai Chung is the site of the container port. It is also part of Tsuen Wan New Town. In 2000, it had a population of 287,000. Its area is 9.93 km². Areas within Kwai Chung include: Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing, Lai King, Tai Wo Hau.

History

A Hong Kong-listed textile company called Texwinca acquired the Baleno trademark and formed Baleno Holdings Limited in 1996. It expanded rapidly into China, becoming one of the most famous brands there, with 535 shops by 2003. [1] An academic study credited its success to affordable prices, mass appeal, design and good quality. [1]

Endorsements

Andy Lau has been a model for the Baleno label since at least 2003, and was featured in the Voice of Baleno 10th Anniversary concert at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 5, 2006. Faye Wong has also been a model for the brand; Baleno was Title Sponsor for her December 2003 concert series at the Hong Kong Coliseum, and she modelled their collection for a 2005 calendar. [4]

Tsing Kwai Highway road in Hong Kong

Tsing Kwai Highway is a section of Route 3 in Hong Kong, previously known as Route 3 - Kwai Chung Section. From its junction with West Kowloon Highway at Mei Foo Roundabout, the expressway runs in the form of a 3 km dual-4 lane viaduct atop Kwai Chung Road and Kwai Tai Road, circumscribing the container terminals to reach the Rambler Channel. Then, the highway crosses the channel along a 500 m bridge known as Cheung Tsing Bridge, and ends at its junction with the Cheung Ching Tunnel. Tsing Kwai Highway was opened on 19 February 1997.

Kwai Chung Sports Ground

Kwai Chung Sports Ground is one of the major sports grounds in the Kwai Tsing District, located in Kwai Fong, Hong Kong. It was built in 1979.

Kwai Tsing Container Terminals

Kwai Tsing Container Terminals is the main port facilities in the reclamation along Rambler Channel between Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Island, Hong Kong. It evolved from four berths of Kwai Chung Container Port completed in the 1970s. It later expanded with two berths in the 1980s. Two additional terminals are added adjoining to Stonecutters Island in the 1990s and was renamed Kwai Chung Container Terminals. In the 2000s, when Container Terminal 9 on the Tsing Yi Island and was renamed to Kwai Tsing Container Terminals.

Chow Tai Fook group is a Hong Kong based privately owned conglomerate that engaged in the jewellery, property development, hotel, department store, transportation, energy, telecommunications, port, casino and other businesses. Despite the holding companies of the group, namely Chow Tai Fook Capital Limited, Chow Tai Fook (Holding) Limited, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited and etc. were privately owned, the group was partly floated in the public, via associate company New World Development and subsidiary Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited. As of 31 December 2017, New World Development was ranked as the 47th largest companies of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong by market capitalization, which was HK$115.4988 billion.

It was founded by Wong Kwong Yu, a Chinese businessman, in Beijing in 1987. Its brand name "GOME" was first adopted in 1993. Since 1999, it has developed outside Beijing and established retail outlets in other Chinese cities. It was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2004. As of 2008 Wong is the chairperson, the controlling shareholder, and the director. The company is incorporated in Bermuda.

Metroplaza Towers building complex

MetroPlaza, also written as Metroplaza and Metro Plaza, is a high-rise development located in the Kwai Chung district of the New Territories in Hong Kong. The complex contains two towers situated above the Metroplaza shopping centre: MetroPlaza Tower 1 and MetroPlaza Tower 2. MetroPlaza Tower 2 is the taller of the two towers, rising 47 floors and 209 metres (686 ft) to the top of its decorative spire and logo. The building was completed in 1992. It was designed by architectural firm Wong Tung & Partners, and was developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties. MetroPlaza Tower 2, which stands as the 41st-tallest building in Hong Kong, is composed entirely of commercial office space. The building is an example of postmodern architecture.

<i>Twilight of a Nation</i> television series

Twilight of a Nation is a Hong Kong television series based on the events of the Taiping Rebellion and the rise and fall of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom during the late Qing dynasty. The 45 episodes long series was produced by Siu Sang and was first aired on TVB Jade in Hong Kong in November 1988. It was broadcast again on TVB in 1996. The theme songs and insert songs in the series were performed by Roman Tam.

Trivisa is a 2016 Hong Kong action crime thriller film produced by Johnnie To and Yau Nai-hoi, featuring the directorial debuts of newcomers Frank Hui, Jevons Au and Vicky Wong. The film is a fictionalized story about three real-life notorious Hong Kong mobsters, Kwai Ping-hung, Yip Kai Foon and Cheung Tze-keung, who are portrayed in the film by Gordon Lam, Richie Jen and Jordan Chan respectively. The film had its world premiere at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival's Forum section. The film also opened the 40th Hong Kong International Film Festival on 21 March 2016 and was theatrically released in Hong Kong on 7 April.

Most Kwai Chung Limited is a magazine and online media company based in Hong Kong. The company is well-known for owning and running popular satirical magazine 100Most and online media platform TVMost.
