Bangladesh Aviation and Aerospace University is a public university in Bangladesh. [1] It is funded by the government and is Bangladesh's first higher education institution on aerospace engineering. [2] It is the 46th public University of Bangladesh.The permanent campus of BAAU Lalmonirhat besides Airport of Lalmonirhat. As per the admission circular the Aeronautical Engineering program began in January 2020.

History

On July 11, 2018, the UGC drafted a law and submitted it to the Ministry of Education for setting up an aviation university in Bangladesh. [3] At the Council of Ministers meeting on September 28, 2018, the approval for establishing this university/institution was granted, along with three more universities receiving policy approval on the same day. On February 28, 2019, education minister Dipu Moni placed a bill in the National Parliament regarding the inauguration of this institution and it was passed. [4] A temporary office has been set up at the old airport at Tejgaon, Dhaka to handle the activities of the university. [5] Air Vice-Marshal AHM Fazlul Haque has been appointed as the founding Vice Chancellor of the institution on May 26, 2019. The current Vice Chancellor of the university is Air Vice-Marshal ASM Fakhrul Islam. [6]

Sir Muhammad Azizul Haque, KCSI, CIE, also known as Muhammad Azizul Huq or Mohammad Azizul Huque, was a Bengali lawyer, writer and public servant. He studied at Presidency College and University Law College in Calcutta. He worked to better the condition of Muslim people, primarily in the rural farmlands. Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Nazrul Islam BSP, nswc, afwc, psc, GD(P), (Retd) is a retired Bangladesh Air Force officer. During his four decades in the military, he led a Bangladesh peacekeeping contingent in the Democratic Republic of Congo, commanded two air bases in Bangladesh, and was vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University (BSMRAAU).

Air Vice Marshal AHM Fazlul Haque BBP, BSP, ndu, afwc, psc, GD(P) is a retired Bangladeshi 2 Star Air Force officer who has served as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations). He is the founding Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University. Before join BSMRAAU, he served as Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Bir Shretra Matiur Rahman.

Air Vice Marshal ASM Fakhrul Islam, OSP, GUP, ndc, afwc, psc, GD (P) is a Bangladesh Air Force officer and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations). Prior to that, he was Senior Directing Staff (Air) at National Defense College, Mirpur. Prior to this position, he was Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University. Before that, he was Commandant of Bangabandhu Aeronautical Centre. He also served as Air Officer Commanding(AOC) at BAF Base Zahurul Haque, Patenga, Chattogram.

Zafar Ahmed is a Justice of the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.

Lalmonirhat Cantonment is a cantonment located in Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Bangladesh.
