Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sechchasebak Dal is the volunteer wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, President Ziaur Rahman, established Jatiyatabadi Swachhasebak Dal on 19 August 1980 to create a group of volunteers to work during natural disasters. [1]
After its establishment, a 23-member committee was convened by journalist Kazi Siraj. Then on August 19, 1985, a committee of 29 members was formed under the leadership of Kazi Asaduzzaman. Presently, President SM Jilani and Rajib Ahsan are serving as General Secretary. Sechchasevak Dal head office is located at Naya Paltan, Dhaka. [2]
The local leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allied organizations organized a roadside gathering in Ghonapara, Gopalganj to mark the arrival of central president of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sechchasebak Dal, S. M. Jilani, at his hometown in Tungipara, Gopalganj. After the rally at Bedgram in the town, BNP leaders and activists set off towards Ghonapara of Gopalganj district. When their convoy reached Ghonapara, local leaders and activists of the Awami League launched a sudden attack on them. [3] In the attack, first-class umpire of Bangladesh Cricket Board and sports secretary of central committee of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sechchasebak Dal, Shawkat Ali Didar, along with Gopalganj metropolitan Sechchasebak Dal leader Liton, were killed. [4] [5] The attack also left at least 50 people injured, including Sechchhasebak Dal president SM Jilani, his wife, Gopalganj District Mahila Dal president Rowshan Ara Ratna, and Somoy TV cameraman HM Manik. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep concern over the incident in a statement. [7] Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami condemned and protested the attack on the convoy of the Sechchhasebak Dal's president and the resulting loss of life. The party described the attack as brutal and cowardly. [8] The Anti-discrimination Students Movement demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved in the attack. Additionally, they called for a ban on the Awami League and all its affiliated organizations for their involvement in terrorist activities. [9]
Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a major political party in Bangladesh. It was founded on 1 September 1978 by the late Bangladeshi president Ziaur Rahman, with a view of uniting people with a nationalist ideology, BNP later came out as one of the two most dominant parties in Bangladesh, along with its archrival Awami League. M Ilias Ali was a Bangladeshi politician and member of the Jatiya Sangsad (2001–2006) representing the Sylhet-2 constituency. He served as the organising secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He, along with his personal car driver, Ansar Ali, went missing on 18 April 2012. Later that day, local police recovered his abandoned car near his residence in Banani neighborhood and found Ansar's cellphone inside. They have not been seen since. On the tenth anniversary of his disappearance, Netra News, an independent news platform in Sweden, reported on 21 April 2022, that Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), an elite Bangladeshi police unit, had carried out the disappearance. The platform cited leaked confidential documents and internal investigations documents from RAB to reach the conclusion.
The 21 August 2004 Dhaka grenade attack took place at an anti-terrorism rally organised by Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on 21 August 2004. The attack left 24 dead and more than 500 injured. The attack was carried out at 5:22 pm after Sheikh Hasina, the leader of opposition had finished addressing a crowd of 20,000 people from the back of a truck. Hasina also sustained some injuries in the attack. The involvement of BNP-Jamaat led government is still debated.

On 28 February 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, the vice-president of the Jamaat-e-Islami to death for war crimes committed during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Following the sentence, activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir attacked Hindus in different parts of the country. Hindu properties were looted, Hindu houses were burnt into ashes and Hindu temples were desecrated and set on fire. While the government has held the Jamaat-e-Islami responsible for the attacks on minorities, the Jamaat-e-Islami leadership has denied any involvement. Minority leaders have protested the attacks and appealed for justice. The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has directed law enforcement to start suo motu investigation into the attacks. The US Ambassador to Bangladesh expressed concern about attacks by Jamaat on the Bengali Hindu community.
Wadud Bhuiyan is a Bangladeshi politician. Bhuiyan was elected twice as the member of the Jatiya Sangsad from Khagrachari constituency respectively in the 6th and 8th National Parliamentary Elections. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board from 2002 to 2006. He currently holds the posts of assistant employment secretary of Central Executive Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and president of the opposition party's Khagrachari local unit as well.

The non-cooperation movement, also known as the one-point movement, was a pro-democratic disinvestment movement and mass uprising against the Awami League-led government of Bangladesh, initiated within the framework of the 2024 Bangladesh quota reform movement. The sole demand of this movement was the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet.
2024 Bangladesh post-resignation violence took place after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, targeting Awami League supporters, religious minorities, government and security officials. On the day of the resignation, 25 police officers were killed. According to the Daily Sun, at least 119 were killed that day. According to Prothom Alo, 1494 sculptures and monuments were vandalized across Bangladesh after the resignation of Sheikh Hasina.
Public criticisms of the Bangladesh Awami League include the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the Jubo League, the Swechchhasebak League, etc., as well as other bodies with which Awami League is overtly or allegedly involved, when they were in power or not. Notable examples include the Murder of Abrar Fahad, the Padma Bridge graft scandal, the Murder of Biswajit Das, the Murder of Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, the Bangladesh Rifles revolt, the 2013 Shapla Square protests, the Bangladesh quota reform movement, the Violence of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the S Alam Group scandal, the Logi Boitha Movement, issues over disputed elections in 2009, 2014 and 2018, and the corruption at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, etc.
