Kermit "Bo" Dorough is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the mayor of Albany,Georgia,since 2020.
Dorough was born in Cordele,Georgia. He graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1983 and from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1986. He began practicing law in Albany in 1987.
In 1999,Dorough was elected to the Albany City Commission as a Commissioner for the city's Ward IV. He continued to hold this position until 2008,when he ran for mayor of Albany,losing to incumbent Willie Adams. [1] [2]
In 2019,he ran for mayor again,and he was one of two candidates,along with incumbent Dorothy Hubbard,who advanced from the November 5 election to a December 3 runoff. [3] Dorough narrowly won the runoff in an outcome described by the Albany Herald as a "stunning upset". [4]
Dorough himself stated that he was not surprised by his victory,noting that Hubbard had only won 30% of the vote in the first round of voting and saying,"I didn't really see it as a big upset." [5] He was sworn in as mayor on January 13,2020. [6]
Running against three challengers,Dorough was re-elected to a second term on November 7,2023,earning 53% of the vote to avoid a runoff. [7]
Dorough's first term in office coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic,which by April 2020 was one of the hardest-hit areas in the country. [8] As Mayor,Dorough pushed through a mask mandate policy that was described as "controversial" among city residents. [9] In the midst of the "Delta surge" in August 2021,Dorough reinstated the mask mandate. [10]
Following a meeting with Senator Jon Ossoff in 2021,Dorough stated that federal funds Albany would receive following the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 would prove a "godsend" for Albany's stormwater and sewage systems. [11]
Dorough is married to Bonny Blackshear,with whom he has three sons. [1]
Albany is a city in the U.S. state of Georgia. Located on the Flint River,it is the seat of Dougherty County,and is the sole incorporated city in that county. Located in southwest Georgia,it is the principal city of the Albany,Georgia metropolitan area. The population was 77,434 at the 2010 U.S. Census,making it the eighth-largest city in the state. It became prominent in the nineteenth century as a shipping and market center,first served by riverboats. Scheduled steamboats connected Albany with the busy port of Apalachicola,Florida. They were replaced by railroads. Seven lines met in Albany,and it was a center of trade in the Southeast. It is part of the Black Belt,the extensive area in the Deep South of cotton plantations. From the mid-20th century,it received military investment during World War II and after,that helped develop the region. Albany and this area were prominent during the civil rights era,particularly during the early 1960s as activists worked to regain voting and other civil rights. Railroad restructuring and reduction in the military here caused job losses,but the city has developed new businesses.

Veterans Park Amphitheater is a 2,500-seat amphitheater located in Albany,Georgia. It is part of a sports,entertainment and convention complex that also includes the Albany Civic Center and Albany Municipal Auditorium. From its opening in the mid 1980s into the mid 1990s,the amphitheater was an anchor for two major annual events in Albany;River Days in the spring and Fall on the Flint. It is now primarily used for concerts and Memorial Day,Independence Day and Veterans Day celebrations.
The Rosenberg Brothers Department Store building is located in downtown Albany,Georgia,USA. The three-story brick structure was built in 1924 in an Italianate/Neo-Renaissance Classical Revival style by J.C. Hind and J. T. Murphy.

Sophia D. King is an American politician and former member of Chicago City Council,who served as alderman from the 4th ward,which includes portions of the neighborhoods Bronzeville,Hyde Park,Kenwood,Oakland,and South Loop. King was appointed to the position in 2016 to replace retiring incumbent Will Burns. She won a special election to serve out the rest term of the term in 2017 and was re-elected to a full term in 2019. She was a member and chair of the City Council's Progressive Reform Caucus. King forwent reelection to the city council in 2023 in order to make an unsuccessful run for mayor of Chicago in the 2023 Chicago mayoral election.

The 2019 Chicago aldermanic election took place in two rounds on February 26 and April 2,2019,to elect 50 aldermen to the Chicago City Council. Each alderman represents one of Chicago's 50 wards. The elections are non-partisan and use a two-round system where the top two finishers compete in a second-round run-off if no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the first round. The elections were party of the 2019 Chicago elections,which included elections for Mayor,City Clerk,City Treasurer.
Several elections took place in the U.S. state of Georgia in 2022. The general election was held on November 8,2022. A runoff election for one of Georgia's seats in the United States Senate was held on December 6,2022. The runoff was scheduled because none of the candidates for Senate received 50% of the statewide vote in the general election. In addition to the Senate seat,all of Georgia's seats in the United States House of Representatives were up for election. Also up for election were all of Georgia's executive officers and legislative seats,as well as one seat on the Georgia Public Service Commission. The Republican Party decisively won every single statewide office in Georgia except for the Federal Senate race which narrowly went Democratic in 2022.
The 2022 Georgia Secretary of State election was held on November 8,2022,to elect the Secretary of State of Georgia. Incumbent Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger won re-election to a second term. Raffensperger emerged as a major national figure in early January,2021 when he faced significant pressure from then-President Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. The party primary elections took place on May 24,with runoffs scheduled for June 21. Trump had been taped in a phone call asking Raffensperger to "find 11,780 votes," the exact number needed for Trump to carry the state.
