Background

Previous election was held in 2014. It was a victory for ANO 2011. Joke party called To Live Brno was also successful. [1] To Live Brno is inspired by Icelandic Best Party. [2] ANO formed coalition with To Live Brno, Green Party and Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party. Petr Vokřál from ANO became Mayor of Brno. [3]

ANO 2011 Czech political movement

ANO 2011 is a centrist, populist political party in the Czech Republic founded by Andrej Babiš, the second-richest person in the Czech Republic, owner of the Agrofert conglomerate, and Mafra media group. It is based on the former movement Action of Dissatisfied Citizens. "Ano" means "yes" in Czech.

Best Party Icelandic political party

The Best Party was an Icelandic political party founded by Jón Gnarr on 16 November 2009. The party ran in the 2010 city council election in Reykjavík and won a plurality on the Reykjavík City Council, receiving 34.7% of the vote, defeating the Independence Party which received 33.6%. It was a member of the International Pirate Party, but not associated with Pirate Party Iceland. Jón Gnarr announced that the party was to be dissolved after he stepped down as mayor after the upcoming local elections in May 2014. Many of the Best Party's members have joined Bright Future, although Jón himself stopped political participation.

The Green Party is a political party in the Czech Republic.

To Live Brno decided to not participate in 2018 election. Its members instead sought nomination from Czech Pirate Party. Pitrates decided to nominate Tomáš Koláčný as its leader. [4] Only one member of To Live Brno received nomination from Pirate Party. [5]

The Czech Pirate Party or Pirates is a political party in the Czech Republic, founded in 2009. It is the third largest party in the Chamber of Deputies following the 2017 legislative election, with 22 out of 200 seats, entering the Chamber of Deputies for the first time since its formation. The parliamentary party sits in opposition to the ruling cabinet, and party leader Ivan Bartoš serves as the chairman of the Committee on Public Administration and Regional Development. The party is represented by three Members of the Senate of the Czech Republic, the most recently elected being Lukáš Wagenknecht in 2018. In same year, the party formed a governing coalition in the Prague City Assembly and Zdeněk Hřib became the current Mayor of Prague.

The Civic Democratic Party announced on 24 April 2018 that it will participate election with support of Party of Free Citizens. Markéta Vaňková became candidate for Mayor. [6] [7] Party launched its campaign along with the announcement. Vaňková stated that she isn't satisfied with the current political development in Brno. She criticised ruling coalition for stagnation. She noted that many projects started by previous coalition aren't finished yet. [8]

Civic Democratic Party (Czech Republic) Czech political party

The Civic Democratic Party is a liberal-conservative political party in the Czech Republic. It holds 25 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, and is the second strongest party following the 2017 election.

2018 Civic Democratic Party leadership election

The next Civic Democratic Party (ODS) leadership election will be held on 13 January 2018. The incumbent leader Petr Fiala seeks reelection. Shadow Minister of Education Václav Klaus Jr. was widely expected to run against Fiala. He is considered to be the most visible politician of the party. In December 2016, Czech bookmaker company Fortuna wrote a course for Klaus Jr. to replace Fiala on 20:1. Klaus Jr.. decided to not run against Fiala. Approximately 540 delegates were allowed to vote. Fiala received 451 votes and was elected for another term.

2014 Plzeň municipal election

Plzeň municipal election in 2014 was held as part of Czech municipal elections, 2014. It was held on 10 and 11 October 2014. ANO 2011 received the highest number of votes but Civic Democratic Party (ODS) and Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) won the same number of seats in the City's assembly. Civic Democratic Party ruled in Plzeň more than 20 years but was expected to lose its positions and receive only 10% of votes. In an electoral upset, ODS received more than 17%. Leader of local Civic Democrats Martin Baxa said that he believes that ODS was the actual victor of the election. Voter turnout was 33.73%.

2014 Brno municipal election

Brno municipal election in 2014 was held as part of Czech municipal elections, 2014. It was held on 10 and 11 October 2014. 55 Members of Assemby were elected. Election was a victory for ANO 2011. Joke party called To Live Brno was also successful. To Live Brno is inspired by Icelandic Best Party.

2018 Czech Social Democratic Party leadership election

A leadership election for the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) was held in 2018 following the 2017 legislative election. Jan Hamáček was elected the new leader of the party, defeating Jiří Zimola in the second round.

2016 Liberec regional election

Liberec regional election in 2016 was held as part of 2016 regional elections. It was a surprising victory of Mayors for Liberec Region (SLK) led by Martin Půta. Půta faced accusations of corruption prior election. Půta remained Governor of Liberec region. SLK formed coalition with ANO 2011, ODS and ČSSD.

Senate district 70 – Ostrava-City is electoral district to the Senate, upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, comprising part of Ostrava-City District. The district is represented by Civic Democratic Senator Zdeněk Nytra.

2018 Trutnov by-election

A by-election for the Trutnov Senate seat in the Czech Republic was held over two rounds in January 2018. The first round was held on 5 and 6 January 2018, with the second round on 12 and 13 January. The front-runners in the election were Jan Sobotka, supported by right-wing parties, and Jiří Hlavatý, the candidate of ANO 2011. Both of these candidates qualified for the second round held on 12 and 13 January 2018, which was won by Sobotka with 67% of votes.

Next Czech presidential election

Presidential elections will be held in the Czech Republic no later than January 2023. The incumbent president Miloš Zeman is not eligible to run for another term. The election will most likely be direct. There has been speculation that Miloš Zeman will not finish his second term.

2019 European Parliament election in the Czech Republic

The 2019 European Parliament election in the Czech Republic will be held in May 2019, electing the 21 members of the Czech delegation to the European Parliament as part of the European elections held across the European Union.

The Plzeň municipal election in 2018 was beheld as part of Czech municipal elections, 2018 on 5 and 6 October 2018. Plzeň was led by a coalition of the Civic Democratic Party, Czech Social Democratic Party, Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party and Citizens Patriots. ANO 2011 was the strongest opposition party. ANO 2011 has won the popular vote but tied with the Civic Democratic Party by number of seats. Coalition formed after the election was formed on 15 October 2018 consisting ANO 2011, Civic Democratic Party, TOP 09 and Czech Social Democratic Party. Martin Baxa became the new Mayor.

Municipal election in Ostrava will be held as part of Czech municipal elections in 2018.

From 21 May 2018 to 14 June 2018 the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) held a referendum to determine whether it should join the minority government of Andrej Babiš with potential confidence and supply from the Communist Party.

2019 Prague 9 by-election

A by-election for the Prague 9 Senate seat in the Czech Republic will be held on 5 and 6 April 2019. The incumbent Senator Zuzana Baudyšová announced her resignation on 29 January 2019. She was elected as a candidate of ANO 2011. Baudyšová resigned due to health difficulties.
