The album reached many markets around the world, such as the Far East and Jamaica, with Rogers later commenting "When I go to Korea or Hong Kong people say 'Ah, the gambler!'". The album has sold over 5 million copies.

After lead vocalist Wong Ka Kui's death, Wong became the lead vocalist and main songwriter for Beyond. He also earned the award "The Best Rock Singer" of the Hit Awards in 2012.

It was recorded at Sound Arts Studios in Houston, Texas, and at Stomp Box Studios in Arlington, Texas, and released in the United States on April 8, 2003 by Brando Records. It was co-produced by Justin Furstenfeld and David Castell. It is the only Blue October album to feature former member Dwayne Casey on bass guitar, and the band's first album featuring lead guitarist C.B. Hudson. The track "Come in Closer" features guest vocals by Zayra Alvarez, who later, on the CBS reality show Rock Star: Supernova, sang the song "Razorblade" on her final episode before being voted off. History for Sale was voted best album by the 2003 Houston Press Music Awards.
Supernova is an American punk rock band formed in Costa Mesa, California, United States, in 1989. The band has released three full-length albums, numerous singles and EPs and were part of the original 1995 Vans Warped Tour line-up. They are perhaps best known by wider audiences for their song "Chewbacca", which was featured on the soundtrack to Kevin Smith's 1994 independent film Clerks. They are also known for the song "Up & Down", which was performed in 2007 on the Nick Jr. Channel children's show Yo Gabba Gabba!
The Vandals / Assorted Jelly Beans is a split 7-inch record put out by Kung Fu Records in 1996. It was the first release to be put out by the label, which was founded by Vandals members Joe Escalante and Warren Fitzgerald for the purpose of releasing an album by the Huntington Beach band Assorted Jelly Beans. It is therefore appropriate that the label's first release is a split 7-inch with songs from the Vandals on one side and the Assorted Jelly Beans on the other.
"Walkin' After Midnight" is a song written by Alan Block and Don Hecht and recorded by American country music artist Patsy Cline. The song was originally given to pop singer Kay Starr; however, her label rejected it. The song was left unused until Hecht rediscovered it when writing for Four Star Records. Originally Cline was not fond of "Walkin' After Midnight", but after making a compromise with her label she recorded it. However, the first released recording was by Lynn Howard with The Accents, released in August 1956.
