Canadian Weightlifting Federation-Haltérophilie Canadienne (CWFHC) is the governing body for the sport of weightlifting in Canada.

History

The origins of Canadian olympic weightlifting started from the beginning of the 20th century. Canada produced a large number of World Championships and Olympic athletes since the 1924 Summer Olympic Games. [1]

Currently, he still holds the WDFPF world records in the squat, deadlift and total and the USAPL American record in the deadlift since 1995. He is credited for the biggest raw squat and raw powerlifting total ever performed by a drug tested athlete, regardless of weight class, as well as the greatest raw deadlift by an American citizen.

Solomon Islands at the 1984 Summer Olympics Sporting event delegation

The Solomon Islands sent a delegation to compete in the Olympic Games for the first time at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States from 28 July to 12 August 1984. The delegation consisted of three athletes: track and field competitors Charlie Oliver and Johnson Kere, and weightlifter Leslie Ata. Kere took part in the men'[s 100 meters and Oliver was an entrant in the men's 800 meters. Neither of the track and field athletes advanced beyond their heats, and Ata placed 16th in the men's lightweight event.

Christine Girard Canadian weightlifter

Christine Girard is a Canadian weightlifter from White Rock, British Columbia. She competes in the 63 kg division. Girard was the first Canadian female to win a medal in weightlifting when she won gold at the 2012 London Olympics. She also won Commonwealth Games and Pan American Games titles in her weight class and has won multiple medals in each of those competitions. She holds the Commonwealth games record and the Pan-American Games record in the Clean and Jerk.

The World Weightlifting Championships is an event organised by International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). The first competition, held in March 1891, was won by Edward Lawrence Levy of England.

Weightlifting at the 2016 Summer Olympics

Weightlifting competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 6 to 16 August at the Pavilion 2 of Riocentro. 260 athletes competed in 15 different events according to their respective weight categories. Bulgaria and Russia were banned from participating in the sport for systematic doping.

Jasvir Singh is a Canadian weightlifter of Indian origin. He qualified for the men's featherweight category at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by finishing seventh from the Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Callao, Peru. He is also a five-time Indian and a three-time Canadian champion.

Weightlifting competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto was held from July 11 to 15 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. Due to naming rights the arena was as the latter for the duration of the games. A total of fifteen weightlifting events were held: eight for men and seven for women.
