The Caparo River is a river which drains into the Gulf of Paria on the west coast of Trinidad. It flows through the town of Chaguanas. [1]

The Gulf of Paria is a 7,800 km2 (3,000 sq mi) shallow semi-enclosed inland sea located between the island of Trinidad and the east coast of Venezuela. It separates the two countries by as little as 15 km at its narrowest and 120 km at its widest points.The tides within the Gulf are semi-diurnal in nature with a range of approximately 1m. The Gulf of Paria is considered to be one of the best natural harbours on the Atlantic coast of the Americas. The jurisdiction of the Gulf of Paria is split between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela with Trinidad and Tobago having control over approximately 2,940 km2 (1,140 sq mi)(37.7%) and Venezuela the remainder(62.3%).

Trinidad is the larger and more populous of the two major islands of Trinidad and Tobago. The island lies 11 km (6.8 mi) off the northeastern coast of Venezuela and sits on the continental shelf of South America. Though geographically part of the South American continent, from a socio-economic standpoint it is often referred to as the southernmost island in the Caribbean. With an area of 4,768 km2 (1,841 sq mi), it is also the fifth largest in the West Indies.

Chaguanas Borough

The Borough of Chaguanas is the largest borough and fastest-growing town in Trinidad and Tobago. Located in west-central Trinidad, south of Port of Spain, north of Couva and San Fernando, named after the indigenous tribe who originally settled there, it grew in size due to its proximity to the Woodford Lodge sugar refinery. It remained a minor town until the 1980s when it began to grow rapidly as it drew people for its bargain shopping and moderately-priced housing. However, its rapid growth has seen property values increase dramatically.

Caroni County

Caroni County is a historic county of Trinidad and Tobago. It occupies 557 km2 (215 sq mi) in the west central part of the island of Trinidad, the larger island in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. It lies south and southwest of Saint George County, west of Nariva County and north of Victoria County. To the west it is bounded by the Gulf of Paria. County Caroni includes the towns of Chaguanas, the largest town in the country and Couva, the capital of the Couva–Tabaquite–Talparo region. Administratively it is divided between the Borough of Chaguanas, the Couva–Tabaquite–Talparo Regional Corporation and the Tunapuna–Piarco Regional Corporation. The county was divided into four Wards: Chaguanas, Couva, Cunupia and Montserrat. The major towns of County Caroni are Chaguanas and Couva. The port and industrial zone of Point Lisas is located in Caroni, and the region is also a site for agriculture.

Cunupia is a former town in central Trinidad. Cunapia is a neighbourhood located in Chaguanas. It is part of the Borough of Chaguanas. Cunupia is just northeast of Chaguanas proper. Like Chaguanas itself, Cunupia has experienced rapid growth in recent years, especially in terms of residential developments.

The Trinidad and Tobago Guardian is the oldest daily newspaper in Trinidad and Tobago. Its first edition was published on Sunday 2nd September, 1917. The newspaper, now owned and published by Guardian Media Limited., began as a broadsheet but in November 2002 changed to tabloid format, known as the "G-sized Guardian". In June 2008, the paper changed to a smaller-size tabloid. The main office of the Guardian is on St. Vincent Street, Port of Spain, with a branch office on Chancery Lane, San Fernando, and on 4-10 Rodney Road in Chaguanas. On 2 September, 2017 the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian celebrated its 100th anniversary. Shortly after, on 11th September, 2017 the company launched a new layout.

Simbhoonath Capildeo Trinidadian politician

Simbhoonath Capildeo was born in 1914 and died in 1990 was a Trinidad and Tobago prominent Hindu politician and lawyer he was born in Chaguanas. He was the elder brother of Rudranath Capildeo and uncle of Sir Vidia Naipaul and Shiva Naipaul. A politician who would later earn the reputation as the "lion of the Legislative Council" Capildeo was one of the founding members of the Democratic Labour Party and a member of parliament from 1956 to 1966. He served as the Leader of the Opposition in 1956. Capildeo was also an important leader of the Hindu community in Trinidad and played in role in the foundation of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha along with Bhadase Sagan Maraj. He received the Chaconia Gold medal from the Trinidad and Tobago government for his service to the country.

The counties of Trinidad and Tobago are historic administrative divisions of Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad was divided into eight counties, and these counties were subdivided into wards. Tobago was administered as a ward of Saint David County.

Presentation College, Chaguanas is a Roman Catholic secondary school in Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago and is the brother school of Presentation College, San Fernando.

Trinidad Government Railway

The Trinidad Government Railway existed between 1876 and 28 December 1968. Originally built to connect Port of Spain with Arima, the railway was extended to Couva in 1880, San Fernando in 1882, Cunapo in 1897, Tabaquite in 1898, Siparia in 1913 and Rio Claro in 1914.
