The Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helen is a historical Greek Orthodox Church in Johannesburg, designed by architect Hermann Kallenbach and built in 1912. [1] It is a SAHRA protected site.
The white walled church was designed by Hermann Kallenbach who was a close friend and admirer of Mahatma Gandhi. (Kallenbach lived in the same house and donated a farm to Gandhi). The church was required by the growing population of Greeks who had moved to Yeoville and Berea in the 19th century. [1] The community took six years to raise the £3,300 for the building led by the Ladies Benevolent Association, Archimandrite Nicodemos Sarikas [2] and Archimandrite Athanasios Nicolopoulos. [3]
Kallenbach created a church in the Byzantine style [3] in 1912 for the Greek community with a number of different roof levels which were not designed to be at the same angle. These complement the large three-storey high dome which is painted blue on the inside. [1] The new building opened on 5 January 1913. The cathedral is dedicated to the emperor Saint Constantine and his mother Saint Helen. [3]
Today the Greek congregation is reducing and the congregation are now drawn from a much wider area with this being one of three Greek Orthodox churches in the city. The church is a South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) protected site. [1]

The Great Synagogue on Wolmarans Street, Johannesburg, is known as the city's mother synagogue and "the crown jewel of Orthodox Judaism in South Africa." All large-scale Jewish events in Johannesburg were held in the building, and throughout its existence it was the seat of the country's chief rabbi. Northward migration by congregation members led to the synagogue relocating in 1994, to be replaced by the Great Park Synagogue on Glenhove Road, Oaklands, built on the model of the Great Synagogue, whose own architecture in turn was inspired by the Hagia Sophia.

The Cathedral of Saints Constantine and Helene is a Greek Orthodox church in Perth, Western Australia. It was the first Greek Orthodox church built in Western Australia and took twelve years to erect. Before its foundation, Greek migrants in Perth conducted ecclesiastical services in their homes and workplaces, as well as in Anglican venues. The Castellorizian Association of WA, made up of Greek migrants from the island of Castellorizo, bought land on Parker Street, Northbridge, to house a church and hall, and the Hellenic Community of Western Australia put effort into raising funds for the buildings. In 1925, the hall was built, where church services and fundraising events took place. In 1936, the church was built and a consecration ceremony was conducted the following year. The cathedral is based on Byzantine architecture and the Church of Saints Costandinou and Eleni in Castellorizo, and the build cost was £4500. Currently, Father Terry Gerovasilis is the church's parish priest.
