Celebes TV was a local television station serving Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Celebes TV was in channel 28 UHF and broadcast in six regencies/cities in South Sulawesi, namely Makassar, Maros, Pangkep, Barru, Gowa, Takalar, Pare-Pare and Jeneponto.

History

Celebes TV was established in 2009 by the senior television journalist Husain Abdullah, Muannas, Muhammad Hasrul and Kamaluddin Rahman, the spirit of young Makassar and the national television media, make the celebes TV more color and quickly received the South Sulawesi community. Initially this television is named Youth TV (meaningful of the Television Team (KDNa Teven Television (EDP) at the Governor of South Sulawesi. Governor coincides the day of the Youth Volvenies 28 October 2009. Ahead of the television name turns into a Celebes TV. Celebes not only meaningful areas or areas that appoint the island of Sulawesi, but also meaningful spirit of great living to compete and survival. The first year of television run by Makassar young people immediately sobbing 4 award of KPID (Indonesia Regional Broadcasting and Information) Award in 2010.

PT Global Informasi Bermutu, operating as GTV, which is an initialism derived from its previous name, Global TV, is an Indonesian free-to-air television network. It was launched on 8 October 2002. Originally a music television channel as MTV broadcaster in Indonesia and Asia, GTV shifted its focus to general entertainment programming targeting young adults. Currently, the broadcaster airs news, soap opera, reality and game shows, along with Nickelodeon animation series and anime, making up its programming schedule. It is owned by Media Nusantara Citra (MNC), which also owns RCTI, MNCTV and iNews.

The Lontara script, also known as the Bugis script, Bugis-Makassar script, or Urupu Sulapa’ Eppa’ "four-cornered letters", is one of Indonesia's traditional scripts developed in the South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi region. The script is primarily used to write the Buginese language, followed by Makassarese and Mandar. Closely related variants of Lontara are also used to write several languages outside of Sulawesi such as Bima, Ende, and Sumbawa. The script was actively used by several South Sulawesi societies for day-to-day and literary texts from at least mid-15th Century CE until the mid-20th Century CE, before its function was gradually supplanted by the Latin alphabet. Today the script is taught in South Sulawesi Province as part of the local curriculum, but with very limited usage in everyday life.

Sinking of MV <i>Teratai Prima</i>

The sinking of MV Teratai Prima occurred on 11 January 2009, around 04:00 local time when a ferry carrying more than 300 people capsized in the Makassar Strait off West Sulawesi, Survivors stated that the ferry had been slammed by 4-metre (13 ft) waves twice. The first one hit so hard that the ship became unbalanced, before another wave hit from a different direction and sank the vessel.

Digital terrestrial television in Indonesia (DVB-T2) started in 2009, and in most areas runs alongside the analogue TV system. The first phase of nationwide analog shutdown was done in 166 regencies and cities, including Dumai, Banda Aceh, Batam, Tanjungpinang, Serang, Bali, Samarinda, Tanjung Selor, Tarakan, Makassar and Jayapura, starting on 30 April 2022 and it simplified in three stages. An analog broadcasting station in Jakarta along with 173 regencies/cities non-terrestrial services was officially signed off on 2 November 2022 at midnight. On 12 August 2023, the digital terrestrial television of Indonesia fully turned, shifted and switched to all high definition on all thirteen local free-to-air terrestrial television station.

A moment magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Majene Regency in West Sulawesi, Indonesia, on 15 January 2021, at 02:28 WITA. The reverse faulting shock initiated at 18.0 km (11.2 mi) depth with an epicenter inland, located 32 km (20 mi) south of Mamuju. It was preceded by a Mw  5.7 foreshock several hours prior. Shaking from the mainshock was assigned a maximum Modified Mercalli intensity of VI (Strong) in Majene and Mamuju. Four of the five regencies in West Sulawesi were affected. More than 6,000 structures were damaged or destroyed; damage was estimated at Rp829.1 billion rupiah. At least 105 people were confirmed dead; nearly 6,500 were injured and thousands were displaced.
