The Saudi Center for Government Communication (CGC) is a Saudi Arabian government media organization established in August 2017 by the Minister of Culture and Information (MOCI). [1]

Contents

The Saudi Gazette described the CGC's purpose at its launch as "boosting relations with the international media and following a more open policy towards the international audience". The establishment of the CGC is part of the Vision 2030 project spearheaded by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. [2]

The Center acts as a central source of information about Saudi Arabia to the outside world. This information includes a governmental statistics bureau that publishes data, infographics, videographics and documents. The center responds to media inquiries on fields such as politics, tourism, gender equality, human rights and local investment opportunities in both English and Arabic. [3] [4]

International outreach

CGC aims to help the international press in understanding local news, cultural, social and political trends in Saudi Arabia and by broadcasting information and reports about events involving the Kingdom. The Center also aims to support the Ministry's stated aim of reforming its media industries at home, supporting government communications abroad and strengthening Saudi Arabia's cultural relations around the world. Events

CGC works in concord with other entities in the Saudi Minister of Culture and Information (MOCI) to produce events in Saudi Arabia to promote Saudi, Arabic and Islamic culture. [7]

The Riyadh International Book Fair (RIBF) is an annual book fair in Saudi Arabia. It lasts 11 days and regularly attracts over a half million visitors. The fair is used to showcase Saudi government policy, and it has been a locus of political power struggles with the government. Hundreds of publishers sell pre-approved books, and some black-market books. Writers take part in literary events. Invited speakers and the public discuss intellectual and social issues. Disagreements sometimes go beyond the bounds of debate, with speakers being shouted down and surrounded by protestors, and arrests of speakers and protestors; physical assaults are rare but not unknown.

The General Authority of Media Regulation reports to the Ministry of Media and is independent in terms of finance and administration. The Quality of Life Program (QOLP) is one of the Saudi Vision 2030 Realization Programs. It was launched in the middle of 2018 with the strategic aim of improving the ‘lifestyle’ and ‘livability’ of individuals, families, and communities. The program hopes to achieve its goals by transforming cities by supporting and creating more choices that foster participation in environmental, cultural, social, entertaining, sporting, and other activities. According to the program, these activities aim to increase overall wellbeing while creating additional jobs, diversifying the economy, and improving the overall status of Saudi cities to be "among the world's best cities.".

Abdullah bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Maghlouth is a Saudi journalist and the director-general of Saudi Center for Government Communication. He is from Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, and he was born on July 24, 1978. He worked in several Arab and Saudi newspapers and magazines such as: Al Yaum, Al-Hayat, Al Watan, Elaph, Al-Qafila, Forbes, and Tirhal.
