The 1965 Kansas City Athletics season was the eleventh for the franchise in Kansas City and the 65th in its overall history. It involved the A's finishing 10th in the American League with a record of 59 wins and 103 losses, 43 games behind the American League Champion Minnesota Twins. The paid attendance for the season was 528,344, the lowest in the major leagues. The club won 59 games, their worst showing since the A's moved to Kansas City.
Lawrence Dale Isbell was an American baseball and gridiron football player. He was one of the rare players to be All-American in both baseball in football. He was an All-American quarterback in 1951, when he guided the Baylor Bears football team to the Orange Bowl; he threw for 26 career touchdowns in college. In 1952, he was named the All-American catcher by the American Baseball Coaches Association. That season, he set a school record with a .431 average; through 2008, he still ranked second in Baylor Bears baseball annals for best single-season average, behind Mickey Sullivan. Isbell played minor league baseball for the Boston Red Sox and Brooklyn Dodgers organizations. He also played five years of professional football in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a defensive back with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He is a member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

James David "Jim" Sullivan was a Canadian curler from Saint John, New Brunswick. He was a renowned curler, being Skip of the Jim Sullivan Rink which captured the 1987 Canadian Junior Curling Championships for New Brunswick, and the 1988 World Junior Curling Championships. In 1990, Sullivan and his team were the Silver Medalists at the Labatt Brier. Sullivan continued to be active in curling, being a member of Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club, and an Honorary Life Member of the Capital Winter Club in Fredericton.
