Chaung-U Township (Burmese : ချောင်းဦးမြို့နယ်) is a township in Monywa District of Sagaing Division in Burma. [1] The principal town is Chaung-U.
The township boundary touches with the boundaries of other townships;Myinmu township is in the east, Myaung township is in the south, Salingyi township is in the west, and Monywa Township is in the north. There is Chindwin river between two townships of Chaung-U and Salingyi as the common boundary.
The township has got 74 villages. They are below:
Yar Kyi (ယာကြီးကျေးရွာ), also Yar Gyi, Yargyi and Yargi village, is an important stopover on the India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway. On 11 April 2018, Yagyi-Kalewa section was finally awarded to Punj Lylloyd, to be completed in 3 years by April 2021 for Rs.1,177 crore in Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) mode under a special purpose vehicle. [2] It will be an international standard highway with two-lane in each direction with paved shoulders, entailing 6 truck stops, 20 bus stops and passenger shelters, 1 rest area, strengthening of 4 existing major bridges and 9 existing minor bridges, and construction of 3 new major bridges and 2 new minor bridges. [2]
Chaungma (also Chaung Ma) village (ချောင်းမကျေးရွာ) is an important stopover on the India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway. It is 64.4 km (40.0 mi) from Yargyi (Yar Kyi).
There are many historical villages, quarters and monasteries around the township. Among them, Nwe Chway, Pè Pyittaw, Khin Mon, Amyint and Hman Cho are the most distinct villages, for instance.
It is a historical ancient village that is concerned with King Kyansit's history. It was a place where Prince Kyansit saw some creepers as the blessing omen for him. When he became a king, he founded the village. He called it "Nwe Chway village"; and also built the pagodas.
It is also a village where was founded and named by King Kyansit. There are still historical pagodas in the village.
It is a historical ancient village. Ago, it was a city when Innwa and Konbaung dynasties governed the country. During the age of Innwa, it was an important city for Innwa Kings and their armies. King Swar Saw Kè was the governor of the city before he became a king. When Kone Baung Kings governed the country, the mayor Min Lappha Wah was famous. Venerable Abbot Ven. Nandar Siri was also born in the village. Amyint has many historical ancient pagodas, monasteries and other proofs or things.
There are many historical urban quarters in the town. For instance, Sandaw Sware, A Shaema Oak, A Naukma Oak and Ye Hlay quarters are the most distinct historical urban quarters. They were historically concerned with King Kyansit.
Around the township, there are many historical ancient monasteries and pagodas. In the urban quarters, there are ancient pagodas that were built by King Kyansit. For example, Vin Khaya (Win Kha Ya) Pagoda in Makyi Taw Monastery and Htee Hlaing Shin Pagoda in Htee Hlaing Shin Monastery are those pagodas that were built by King Kyansit. Many other historical ancient pagodas and monasteries are found spreading around the township.
Kyaukse is a town and the capital of Kyaukse District in Mandalay Region, Myanmar. Lying on the Zawgyi River, 25 miles (40 km) south of Mandalay, it is served by the Mandalay-Yangon (Rangoon) railway. The first Myanmar probably settled in the area about 800, and local 12th- and 13th-century inscriptions refer to Kyaukse as “the first home”. Remains of pagodas and old cities are found throughout the area. The Shwethalyaung Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta (1044–77), is located in Kyaukse.
The nats are god-like spirits venerated in Myanmar and neighbouring countries in conjunction with Buddhism. They are divided between the 37 Great Nats who were designated that status by King Anawrahta when he formalized the official list of nats. Most of the 37 Great Nats were human beings who met violent deaths.
Chaung-U is a town located in Monywa District, Sagaing Region, Myanmar. It is the principal town of Chaung-U Township. In the Bagan Dynasty, when King Popa Saw Rahan governed the country, it was named "San Tauk Village". It was a large village where different natives of the Union of Myanmar, like Kayin, Shan and Lawah (Wah) natives, lived happily together. Then, King Kyansit founded the city, gathering ten villages together, for example, Ywa Thit and Ywa Ma, naming it Chaung-U. It is situated 231.46 feet (70.55 m) above sea level at north latitude 21° 57' and east longitude 95° 8' to 95° 25'. The Monywa–Mandalay highway road passes it, so the communication to it is good, quick and easy. The Monywa–Mandalay railway meets that of Chaung-U–Pakokku in the town's station, so it is possible to get there by train. Its official township boundary touches the boundaries of other townships: Myinmu is in the east, Myaung is in the south and south-east, Salingyi is in the west, and Monywa is in the north. The Chindwin River is in the west of the township and the town is six miles away from the river. In Chaung-U there are historical ancient pagodas. Besides, its township has other historical villages, streams, and hills.
Mindat District is a district in the Chin State of Myanmar. It consists of two townships and 840 villages.
Rathedaung Township is a township of Sittwe District in the Rakhine State of Myanmar. The principal town is Rathedaung. Communal clashes of June 2012 also spread into that township and at least there were three Buddhist casualties.

Chaungtha is a town and beach resort located in Shwethaungyan Subtownship, Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. Chaungtha Beach, as it is more commonly known, is about 5 hours' drive away from Yangon, and is a popular resort with Yangonites from October to April. As it is relatively more affordable than the nearby Ngwesaung and Ngapali beaches, Chaungtha is also more crowded and less clean than the two more expensive and better maintained beaches.
Nwe Yin Win is a Burmese singer, considered one of the pioneers of modern Burmese pop music. Nwe Yin Win was born in Sagaing to parents a Bamar father Min Swe and an Anglo-Burmese mother "Gertie Win" Tin Tin Hla. She attended the English-speaking St. Francis Girls' School and St. Philomena's Convent High School. In 1967, she graduated from Rangoon University with a degree in English before getting a master's degree (MEd) in 1973 at the Rangoon Institute of Education. During her time in college, she began dabbling with a music career.
Hkamti Township or Khamti Township is a township in Hkamti District in the Sagaing Region of Burma (Myanmar). The principal town is Hkamti. As of 2014 the township had a population of 47,658 people and covered an area of 8,174 square kilometres (3,156 sq mi). The township is dominated by the Chindwin River and its tributaries as well as thickly forested areas. Nearly half the active working population are employed in agriculture, forestry or fishing. The township is a producer of rice and has gold and jade reserves.

The Yangon Psychiatric (Mental) Health Hospital is one of the two major mental health hospitals in Myanmar. The 1,200-bed hospital is located at Ywar Thar Gyi Ward in East Dagon Township. Thus, it was known as Ywar Thar Gyi Psychiatric Hospital in the past.

Ashin Abhijātābhivaṃsa, also known as Sagaing Tipiṭaka Sayadaw, was a Burmese Buddhist monk. He was chief abbot of Saddhamma Mānitāyon Monastery in Yangon and abbot of Saddhamma Jotaka Subodhāyon Monastery in Monywa. Being awarded the titles of Tipiṭakadhara and Tipiṭakakovida in 2007 and 2010 respectively, Ashin was the 12th recipient of the title of Tipiṭakadhara Dhammabhaṇḍāgārika.
