The Columbus mayoral election of 1991 was the 79th mayoral election in Columbus, Ohio. It was held on Tuesday, November 5, 1991. Republican party incumbent mayor Buck Rinehart retired from office after serving two consecutive terms. Republican party nominee Greg Lashutka defeated Democratic party nominee Ben Espy. [1]

Mary Jo Kilroy is the former U.S. Representative for Ohio's 15th congressional district, serving from 2009 until 2011. She is a member of the Democratic Party from Ohio. In her first term she introduced a bill to lend $20 million per year to small businesses (HR5322) and an amendment to assign liability to credit reporting agencies. She also contributed to legislation on executive pay. She was defeated in her November 2, 2010 re-election bid. In 2012 she ran in the newly redrawn, Columbus-based 3rd congressional district but lost in the primary.
Kevin L. Boyce is an American politician of the Democratic Party. He currently serves as a Franklin County Commissioner. Formerly he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, serving the 25th District from 2012 to 2016, a member of Columbus City Council, and was Ohio State Treasurer from 2009 to 2010.
Ben E. Espy is a Democratic politician who formerly served in the Ohio Senate. A member of Columbus City Council from 1982 to 1992, Espy went on to obtain an appointment to the Ohio Senate after Senator Richard Pfeiffer resigned in 1992. He won election to fill the remainder of the term in 1992, and to a full term in 1994.

Coleman defeated Republican party nominee Earl W. Smith. The scheduled primary was canceled because neither party had challengers and third party candidates failed to meet requirements. However, write-in candidate Jeffrey E. Brown was also in the field.
Michael F. "Mike" Curtin is a former Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives for the 17th district. He retired from The Dispatch Printing Company, the publisher of The Columbus Dispatch. He first joined the newspaper in 1973 as a reporter. He began covering the Ohio legislature as a reporter in 1982, and subsequently became public affairs editor and managing editor before retiring as associate publisher emeritus in 2007. He decided to run for the 17th district when he noticed that a redistricting left it without an incumbent. He was unopposed in the Democratic primary. In the general election he was opposed by Republican Nicholas A. Szabo, who he defeated with 62.6% of the vote. He was re-elected in 2014 after defeating Republican Mike Newbern, 55% to 45%.
