The Conservatorio Giovanni Battista Martini (previously known as the Liceo Musicale di Bologna, and sometimes referred to in English as the Bologna Conservatory) is a college of music in Bologna, Italy. The conservatory opened on 3 December 1804, as the Liceo Musicale di Bologna. [1] It was initially housed in the convent at the Basilica of San Giacomo Maggiore. The first faculty at the school included the composers Stanislao Mattei and Giovanni Callisto Zanotti, and the composer and singer Lorenzo Gibelli. Gioachino Rossini was a pupil at the school beginning in 1806, and was appointed head of the school in 1839. Later directors of the school included Luigi Mancinelli (1881–1886), Giuseppe Martucci (1886–1902), Marco Enrico Bossi (1902–1911), and Cesare Nordio (1925–1945).
In 1945, the conservatory became a state conservatory, and it was rebranded as the Conservatorio Giovanni Battista Martini, after musician and composer Giovanni Battista Martini. Directors of the conservatory from this point on include Guido Guerrini, Lino Liviabella, Adone Zecchi, Giordano Noferini, Lidia Proietti, Carmine Carrisi, and Donatella Pieri.
Giuseppe Felice Romani was an Italian poet and scholar of literature and mythology who wrote many librettos for the opera composers Donizetti and Bellini. Romani was considered the finest Italian librettist between Metastasio and Boito.

Stefano Golinelli was an Italian piano virtuoso and composer. In 1840 he was appointed by Gioachino Rossini, then an Honorary Councillor of the Liceo Musicale di Bologna, professor for piano at the Liceo, a post he held until 1871. He composed a large number of works for the piano, especially noteworthy 3 Sonatas, and 2 collections of 24 Preludios, op. 23 and 69. He is buried at the Certosa cemetery in his hometown. At his death, he left his Érard piano to the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna.

Guglielmo Zuelli was an Italian composer, conductor, and music educator. As a composer he achieved fame for his first opera Fata del Nord which premiered in Milan in 1884. Both his first and second opera, Mokanna o Il profeta del Korasan, were published by Casa Ricordi. However, his second opera has never been performed. His other compositions consist of several sacred choral works and a number of symphonic pieces written in a style similar to his contemporaries Giacomo Puccini, Alberto Franchetti, and Pietro Mascagni.

Stanislao Mattei, O.F.M. Conv., was an Italian Conventual Franciscan friar who was a noted composer, musicologist, and music teacher of his era.
Gottardo Aldighieri was an Italian operatic baritone who had a major opera career in Italy from 1858 to 1885. He possessed a powerful and beautiful voice and appeared on the stages of most of Italy's great opera houses. He sang a broad repertoire which encompassed works by Italian, French, and German composers. His vocal range was wide, which enabled him to tackle some tenor roles during his career, although he mostly stayed within the baritone repertory. The composer Luigi Arditi devoted his famous waltz song, Il bacio, to him. He was married to the soprano Maria Spezia-Aldighieri, who also had an important opera career in Italy. He is the great grandfather of singer George Aaron.
Adelaide Malanotte was an Italian operatic contralto who performed in major opera houses in Italy from 1806 to 1821. She is best known for creating the title role in the world premiere of Gioachino Rossini's Tancredi in 1813. After her marriage, she performed under the name Adelaide Montresor. Her son, Giovanni Battista Montresor, had a career as a tenor and impresario in the United States. From 1812 until her death 20 years later she carried on an extra-marital affair with the poet Luigi Lechi.

The Conservatorio Statale di Musica "Gioachino Rossini" is a music conservatory in Pesaro, Italy. Founded in 1869 with a legacy from the composer Gioachino Rossini, the conservatory officially opened in 1882 with 67 students and was then known as the Liceo musicale Rossini. By 2010 it had an enrollment of approximately 850 students studying for higher diplomas in singing, instrumental performance, composition, musicology, choral conducting, jazz or electronic music. The conservatory also trains music teachers for secondary schools and holds regular master classes. Its seat is the 18th century Palazzo Olivieri–Machirelli on the Piazza Oliveri in Pesaro. Amongst its past Directors are the composers Carlo Pedrotti, Pietro Mascagni, Riccardo Zandonai and Franco Alfano. Mascagni's opera Zanetto had its world premiere at the conservatory in 1896.

In 1840 instrumental music instruction began, followed by the addition of music composition, conducting, and other musical studies.
