History
The Madden brothers had previously founded a clothing line named 'MADE' around 2002. However the line was defunct by 2006.
In the spring of 2006 the Madden twins teamed up with Tal Cooperman and brother Josh Madden to launch a new clothing brand named 'DCMA Collective' later in the year their T-Shirts were available online.
Benji and Joel are the two frontmen for the multi-platinum band, Good Charlotte. Josh Madden made a name for himself in New York City as a stylist. Tal Cooperman has worked in product placement and music marketing with brands such as Vestal, DVS, Matix and Reebok.

A wardrobe stylist, also fashion stylist, is a consultant who selects the clothing for published editorial features, print or television advertising campaigns, music videos, concert performances, and any public appearances made by celebrities, models or other public figures. Stylists are often part of a larger creative team assembled by the client, collaborating with the fashion designer, photographer/director, hair stylist, and makeup artist to put together a particular look or theme for the specific project. A wardrobe stylist can also be referred to as a fashion stylist, fashion editor, or celebrity stylist. According to one view, "Stylists are the people who push each celebrity to make the best dressed list," and assist with editorial photo shoots.

The Madden family hails from Waldorf, Maryland, which is a suburb of the District of Columbia (DC). This is where "DCMA" comes from: "DC Made" hence ³DCMA². The brand icon is the brass knuckles, which symbolizes the bond the founders share as well as their belief in working with friends and family.
Brass knuckles, also sometimes called knuckles, knucks, brass knucks, knucklebusters, knuckledusters, an English punch or a classic, are weapons used in hand-to-hand combat. Brass knuckles are pieces of metal shaped to fit around the knuckles. Despite their name, they are often made from other metals, plastics or carbon fibers. Designed to preserve and concentrate a punch's force by directing it toward a harder and smaller contact area, they result in increased tissue disruption, including an increased likelihood of fracturing the victim's bones on impact. The extended and rounded palm grip also spreads across the attacker's palm the counter-force that would otherwise be absorbed primarily by the attacker's fingers, reducing the likelihood of damage to the attacker's fingers.
The founders combine to create the aesthetic of DCMA. The design of DCMA reflects each of the founder's individual taste. Their inspiration has roots in music, high fashion, graffiti, and graphic design.
After a more successful start to the company than predecessor 'Made' by the end of 2007 DCMA expanded its product line to also offer Hoodies, Caps and accessories.
Good Charlotte mentioned the brand and the brass knuckle icon in their song 2007 song "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" with the lyrics "now I got Bathing Ape,I got DCMA, I got brass knuckles hanging, From my neck and my chain."
The first DCMA flagship store opened on March 15, 2008 at 645 N Martel Ave, Los Angeles. It sold all the brands products that previously could only be bought online and also offered fans the chance to "bump" into many of the celebrities including members of Good Charlotte, Avenged Sevenfold and athletes including Ryan Sheckler and Carey Hart who often visited the store and support the brand.

Ryan Allen Sheckler is an American professional skateboarder and entrepreneur, and was the star of the MTV-produced reality television series Life of Ryan. Sheckler was listed in Fox Weekly's "15 Most Influential Skateboarders of All-Time" article. Sheckler starred in 4 seasons of the short-format video series Sheckler Sessions on Red Bull TV.
Carey Jason Phillip Hart is an American former professional freestyle motocross competitor, motorcycle racer and current off-road truck racer. He is known for being the first motorcyclist to perform a back flip on a 250cc motorcycle during a competition, and for his company Hart & Huntington Tattoo & Clothing Company. He and singer Pink have been married since 2006.
In late 2008 DCMA collaborated with K-Swiss to produce a range of footwear branded "K-DCMA". K-DCMA shoes were released online on December 18, 2008, after a release party the night before which was attended by the owners and celebrities such as Joe Hahn, Tila Tequila, Audrina Patridge, and Nicole Richie.

Joseph Hahn is a Korean-American musician, DJ, director and visual artist. He is best known as the DJ of the American rock band Linkin Park, doing the scratching, turntables, sampling, and programming for all seven of Linkin Park's albums. Hahn, along with bandmate Mike Shinoda, is responsible for most of Linkin Park's album artwork.

There are many celebrity supporters of the brand who can often be seen wearing DCMA Collective clothing to raise awareness of the company, including Lostprophets, Three 6 Mafia, Carey Hart, Good Charlotte band members, Ryan Sheckler, Escape the Fate, IT Boys, Nicole Richie and Avenged Sevenfold. Joel and Benji themselves have been wearing DCMA commonly since the company was founded.
In February 2011 the store was closed but DCMA stressed in their blog the company was not closing simply moving offices. "Unfortunately we are moving offices and have to close down the store. We are in NO way shutting down the company."
Since the store closure there has been a few new designs released infrequently, Distributors such as Tillys and PacSun have had no DCMA in stock for some time but items are still available on the official online store.

"Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" is a song written by Benji Madden, Joel Madden and Tim Armstrong for Good Charlotte's second studio album The Young and the Hopeless. It was released as the first single from the album in late 2002 in the United States and in early 2003 for the worldwide market. Upon its release the single reached a peak position of number 20 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and charted in the top 40 in a number of European countries.
Good Morning Revival is the fourth studio album by American pop punk band Good Charlotte and the follow-up to the 2004 release The Chronicles of Life and Death. It is the first album to feature Dean Butterworth on drums, who joined the band in March 2005 after former drummer Chris Wilson departed in 2005. Billy Martin has mentioned in an interview that Benji Madden came up with the name for the album. This style can be heard in the album's third single, "Dance Floor Anthem", which is the most successful song on the album by debuting at No. 2 on the Australian charts and reaching No.25 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is the final album by Good Charlotte to be released through Daylight Records; they subsequently signed a deal with Capitol.
"The River" is a song by Good Charlotte featuring M. Shadows and Synyster Gates of the band Avenged Sevenfold. The song was the first single from the Good Morning Revival album in North America and the second single throughout the rest of the world except for Australia. On December 8, 2006, the second GCTV episode was released on Good Charlotte's website. "The River" was featured in the video and can be heard playing in the background. The song was premiered January 4, 2007, on their official website, and via the band's MySpace. The song impacted radio on January 23, 2007. There are several references to the Bible throughout the song and the overall time of the song is three minutes and sixteen seconds, intentionally to reference John 3:16.
Level 27 Clothing was an American clothing company founded in 2000 and owned by Billy Martin from the band Good Charlotte and his best friend from high school, Steve Sievers.
Piperlime was an online retail company based in San Francisco, California, US. Founded in 2006 as a spin-off by Gap Inc., Piperlime offered a selection of footwear and handbags for women, men and children. Beginning in fall 2009, the company sold women's clothing and, later, men's clothing, with the men's business retiring in August 2014. On January 23, 2015, Gap Inc. announced its decision to close Piperlime by the end of April 2015 in order to focus resources on its core brands.
