Glenn Bolton (born February 20, 1961), better known by his stage name Daddy-O, is an American rapper and record producer. He began his career as founder and member of the hip-hop group Stetsasonic, of which Prince Paul is an original member. Throughout the years, Daddy-O has spent his time remixing and working with artists such as Freestyle Fellowship, Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Third World, Sonic Youth, Barry White, Vesta Williams, Chante Moore, Levert, Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Living Colour, Big Daddy Kane, the B-52's, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Career

In 1981, Daddy-O began his career as the lead member of the band Stetsasonic, which included Prince Paul, in Brooklyn, New York. He produced and remixed songs for musical acts such as Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The B-52's, Jeffrey Osborne, Chante Moore, and Lil' Kim. [1]

1988 saw the release of Audio Two "Top Billin" which Daddy-O was responsible for producing and creating one of the most sampled tracks in hip hop history.

In 1992, he produced the entirety of Nubian M.O.B. , the eponymous debut album by the R&B group of the same name. He released his debut solo album in 1993, You Can be a Daddy, But Never Daddy-O, on Island/PolyGram Records. [2] In 1993, Daddy-O produced and appeared on the track "Inner City Boundaries", off of Freestyle Fellowship's 1993 album Innercity Griots .

From 1994 to 1998, he was a Senior Director for MCA Records. After leaving MCA, he worked for Motown Records and various other entertainment agencies, where he helped to produce and discover talent. Other acts with which he has been associated include Sonic Youth, Sublime, Barry White, They Might Be Giants, Camron, Pizzicato 5, and Third World. [3]

In 2005, Daddy-O began as Creative Director for AND1 Basketball Company, heavily involved in the Mixtape Vol. 1-4. He was given the title of Creative Director for Bitrebels.com in 2013. 2014 found Daddy-O in an executive position at PLAT4M LLC, a management consulting firm. In 2015, Daddy-O joined the CloudSpray team as a management and marketing consultant. [4] That same year, he formed The Artist Development Clinic, a 4-week, intensive workshop for new artists. In 2016, Daddy-O and his partner Lion Lindwedel (founder of True School Entertainment) formed their co-owned label, Odad Truth Records. He released his solo albums on the OTR Label with digital distribution on Chuck D's distribution company SpitDigital. The first release was #EverybodyButKRS, followed in February 2016 with The Odad, the Gun, & the Children, El Dolor De Las Calles, No Tablecloths in 2018, From My Hood 2 U in 2019, and the most recent solo release of G.O.A.T. Antidote in 2020. [5] [6]

2020 also brought about the return of Stetsasonic with the recent release of (Now Ya'll Givin' Up) Love and a return to the studio for the original Hip Hop Band for their upcoming album.

Stetsasonic

Stetsasonic is an American hip hop band. Formed in 1981 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, Stetsasonic was one of the first hip hop acts to perform with a full band and use live instrumentation in their recordings, paving the way for future hip hop bands such as The Roots. The band combined beat-boxing, sampling technology, and live band performance, incorporating R&B, jazz, dancehall reggae, and rock into its sound. Stetsasonic is also considered one of the acts that pioneered jazz rap.

Nature of a Sista' is the second studio album by American rapper Queen Latifah. Released on September 3, 1991, it served as a follow-up to her 1989 debut album All Hail the Queen and was her final album with Tommy Boy Records. Latifah was an executive producer for Nature of a Sista' alongside American producer Shakim Compere. Although predominantly a hip hop album, it includes elements of reggae, jazz, R&B, new jack swing, and house music. The lyrics of the album's songs revolve around gender politics and romance. Nubian M.O.B. is the only album of a contemporary R&B group of the same name, which was released during 1992 on Cold Chillin' Records. It was produced entirely by Daddy-O of the group Stetsasonic.
