The Department of Homeland Security (DSN), also known as Department of National Security, is an advisory staff department of the Spanish Prime Minister's Office on matters of National Security and it is a permanent member of the Spanish National Security Council. This body was created to reinforce the organization of the President's office, by assisting the President of the Government in his responsibility leading the national security policy of Spain. It was created on 2012 by the Royal Decree 1119/2012, of July 20, by which the structure of the President's office of the Government is modified. [1]

Functions

As an advisory body to the President of the Government, it is his responsibility to provide immediate, optimal and integral support in matters of national security for proper decision-making, as well as, among other functions: [2]

In the area of crisis management, it provides a comprehensive and cross-cutting vision of crisis management and supports the activity carried out by the Specialized Committee [3] in this area, and also includes, among other functions:

In the scope of the development of the strategic framework of National Security, it has coordinated the work for the elaboration of the National Security Strategy as well as the second level Strategies, specifically the National Maritime Safety Strategies, National Cybersecurity Strategies and National Energy Security.

The Ministry of the Presidency (MPR) was the department of the Government of Spain that, from 1974 to 2023, assured the link between the different Ministries and the Prime Minister and it was responsible for the relations between the Government and the Parliament. This department also supported The Crown in the exercise of its functions.

The Department of Home Affairs is the Australian Government interior ministry with responsibilities for national security, law enforcement, emergency management, border control, immigration, refugees, citizenship, transport security and multicultural affairs. The Intelligence Center for Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime is the Spanish domestic intelligence agency responsible for the prevention of terrorism, organized crime and other violent radical organizations by managing and analyzing all internal information of the country. It was formed in October 2014 by merging of the National Anti-Terrorism Coordination Center and Intelligence Center against Organized Crime.

The National Cryptologic Center (CCN) is a Spanish intelligence agency within the National Intelligence Center responsible for cryptanalyzing and deciphering by manual procedures, electronic media and cryptophony, as well as to carry out technological-cryptographic investigations and to train the personnel specialized in cryptology.
