Devi Chowdhurani: Bandit Queen of Bengal is an upcoming Indian Bengali period film directed by Subhrajit Mitra. [2] [3] The film is produced by Aniruddha Dasgupta and Aparna Dasgupta under the banner of ADited Motion Pictures. The film stars Srabanti Chatterjee in the title role, alongside Prosenjit Chatterjee, while Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and Arjun Chakrabarty in pivotal roles. [4]

The film marks the film comeback of Sabyasachi Chakrabarty. [7] [9] [10] In January 2023, Sabyasachi Chakraborty attended the 21st Dhaka International Film Festival Bangladesh (East Bengal) as a special guest, he told the media at the film festival that "he will be retiring from films for some time". [11] [12] [13] However, Devi Choudhurani: Bandit Queen of Bengal's director Subhrajit Mitra chose Sabyasachi Chakrabarty to play the role of Zamindar Haravallav Ray in May 2023. Srabanti Chatterjee will play the role of Devi Chaudhurani, [6] while Prosenjit Chatterjee will essay Bhavani Pathak, an important character in the film. [2] [5] Indraneil Sengupta was initially cast as Rangaraj, but actor Arjun Chakraborty was eventually roped in to portray Rangaraj. [8] [14] [15] The film went to the floors on 27 January 2024.[ citation needed ]

Release

Devi Chowdhurani will release in theaters on Autumn 2024, along with its dubbed version in a total of 6 languages excluding the original Bengali language version. [16]

Devi Chaudhurani is a Bengali novel written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and published in 1884. It was later translated to English by Subodh Chunder Mitter. Following closely after Anandamath, Bankim Chandra renewed call for a resurgent India that fights against oppression of the British Empire with strength from within the common people, based on traditional Indian values of austerity, dedication and selflessness. It is another important novel in the history of Bengali and Indian literature. Since it fuelled the patriotic struggle for Indian independence from the British Empire, the novel was banned by the British. The ban was lifted later by the government of India after independence. In this novel, Bankim Chandra reinforced his belief that armed face-to-face conflict with the Royal Army is the only way to win independence.

Gaaner Oparey is an Indian Bengali television serial which aired on Star Jalsha from 28 June 2010 to 16 April 2011. This TV musical marked the beginning of a yearlong celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of the great Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore. The concept was a brainchild of the Indian director Rituparno Ghosh. The songs were all popular Rabindra sangeets. Prosenjit Chatterjee launched an audio CD of its tracks on Mahalaya on 12 October 2015. On account of Rabindranath Tagore's 157th birthday, Star Jalsha added Gaaner Oparey on Disney+ Hotstar on 9 May 2018.
