The Dhaka Dynamites are a franchise cricket team based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, which plays in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). They were one of the seven teams that competed in the 2016 Bangladesh Premier League. The team was captained by Shakib Al Hasan.

Player draft

The 2016 BPL draft was held on 30 September. [1] Before the draft, the seven clubs signed 38 foreign players to contracts and each existing franchise was able to retain two home-grown players from the 2015 season. [2] A total of 301 players participated in the draft, including 133 local and 168 foreign players. 85 players were selected in the draft. [3]

Player transfers

Before the 2016 draft, several high-profile players moved teams. These included transfers between competing teams and due to the suspension of Shakib Al Hasan as team captain of Dhaka Dynamites from Rangpur Riders. [4]

Owners and sponsorship

The owners of the Dynamites are Beximco, a company specialising in producing clothing materials. [5] Beximco produces textiles, basic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, jute and marine foods; the company also has real estate and land development interests. Bangladesh Export Import Company (BEXIMCO) is a Bangladeshi industrial conglomerate. The industries under this Group include Textiles, Basic Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, Jute, Marine Foods, Real Estate and Development. Services provided by Beximco include Engineering, Media, Information Technology, Trade and Financial Services. Beximco Pharmaceuticals and Shinepukur Ceramics are the two units that have got world-class factories. [6]

In 2012 and 2013, sponsorship of the then-Gladiators was bought by BBS Cables for 112.50 million for each season, and Oriental Group bought co-sponsorship for 15 million for each season. [7] Beximco secured the sponsorship for the team during the third season.

The Rangpur Riders are a franchise cricket team based in Rangpur, Bangladesh, which plays in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). They are one of the seven teams that are competing in the 2016 Bangladesh Premier League. The team is being captained by Naeem Islam. Prior to the fourth season, the ownership of the Riders were transferred to Sohana Sports. The team rearranged its playing squad, with Shahid Afridi, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Shehzad and many other acclaimed cricketers. The 2020–21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup was a Twenty20 cricket competition that was held in Bangladesh. It was played by five teams, during November and December 2020. In November 2020, more than 100 players began to undertake fitness tests, ahead of a players' draft for the tournament. The players' draft took place on 12 November 2020, with the tournament starting in the third week of November. Two days later, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the full schedule for the tournament.

The Dhaka Platoon, formerly known as the Dhaka Dynamites, is a franchise cricket team that plays in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), representing the country's Dhaka Division. Following the 2012 competition, the Platoon are one of the BPL's seven existing members. The team is headquartered at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, and so is one of three teams playing in the city, alongside the Dhaka Division cricket team and Dhaka Metropolis cricket team which are active in first-class cricket.

The Bangladesh Premier League 2023, also known as BPL Season 9 or Ispahani BPL 2023 Powered by Minister Group was the ninth season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the top-level professional Twenty20 cricket league in Bangladesh, organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). In July 2022, after the International Cricket Council accommodated the month of January and February for this league in its Future Tours Programme, the BCB announced the schedule of the BPL for the next three seasons. Accordingly, the ninth season was scheduled to be held from 5 January to 16 February in 2023. BCB also decided to increase the number of teams to 7 and to sell the franchise rights for 3 years from this season.
