eOne Music is a New York City-based independent record label and music management company. It was formed in 2009 from the music assets of Koch Entertainment, which had been acquired by the present-day Entertainment One (eOne) in 2005. In April 2021, after the acquisition of eOne by Hasbro, the company announced that it would sell eOne Music to The Blackstone Group.

It owns the libraries of Artemis Records, Dualtone Records, Death Row Records, and Last Gang Records, as well as the production music company Audio Network and live events company Round Room Entertainment.

History

eOne as a whole has its origins in the music distributor Records on Wheels, which was acquired by the Canadian retail chain CD Plus in 2001 to expand its wholesale business. [5] Darren Throop joined the company after CD Plus acquired his record store chain Urban Sound Exchange. The combined company later became known as ROW Entertainment, with Throop as president and CEO. [6] [7] In June 2005, ROW acquired the American independent music distributor and home entertainment publisher Koch Entertainment, including its label Koch Records. [8] [9] Koch was renamed E1 Music in 2009. [10] It acquired IndieBlu Music, parent of Artemis Records and V2 Records North America, in 2010. [11]

In 2013, eOne acquired the library of defunct hip-hop label Death Row Records. [12] In January 2016, eOne acquired Dualtone Records. [13] In March 2016, eOne acquired Canadian label Last Gang Records, and hired its founder, music industry lawyer Chris Taylor, as global president of eOne Music. [1] [12]

In 2016, eOne acquired the management firms Hardlivings and Nerve Artist Management. [14] [15] In November 2016, eOne Music hired Ted May, the former senior international marketing managing of Universal Music UK, as director for its UK division, operating from eOne's offices in London. [16] In March 2018, eOne Music acquired the live event production company Round Room Entertainment. [17]

In April 2019 eOne purchased the British music production library Audio Network for $215 million. [18] [19] In 2019, Amelia Artists partnered with eOne's management division. [20] Later in 2019, eOne partnered with the Latin management and marketing group Entotal. [21] In November 2020, it signed AMPED Distribution as its new physical distributor in North America. [22]

In April 2021, following the acquisition of its parent company by toy and entertainment company Hasbro, [23] eOne announced that it would divest its music business to the private equity firm The Blackstone Group for $385 million, in order to focus more on its film and television entertainment businesses. [24] The sale was completed in June, and the unit continued to use the eOne branding until September 2021. [3]

Death Row Records American record label

Death Row Records was an American record label founded in 1992 by Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, The D.O.C. and Dick Griffey. The label became a sensation by releasing multi-platinum hip-hop albums by West Coast-based artists such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg (Doggystyle), Tha Dogg Pound, and Tupac Shakur during the 1990s. At its peak, Death Row was making over US$100 million a year.

Interscope Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group through its Interscope Geffen A&M imprint. Founded in late 1990 by Jimmy Iovine and Ted Field as a $20 million joint venture with Atlantic Records of Warner Music Group, it differed from most record companies by letting A&R staff control decisions and allowing artists and producers full creative control. Its first hit records arrived in under a year, and it achieved profitability in 1993. Chair and CEO until May 2014, Iovine was succeeded by John Janick.

Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) is a music distribution company owned by Warner Music Group, which represents the rights to various independent record labels. ADA provides "independent artist and label partners with access to the resources, relationships and experience required to share their creative vision with a global audience."

Dualtone Records is an American record label specializing in folk, Americana, and indie rock. It was founded in 2001 by Scott Robinson and Dan Herrington. The company is run by Robinson and the label's president, Paul Roper. Albums are distributed by the Alternative Distribution Alliance. On January 20, 2016, Entertainment One acquired Dualtone Records.

The company runs a music publishing division, sync and royalty administration, music production library business, a record label and label services division as well as a Nashville songwriter services group with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and London.

Concord (entertainment company)

Concord is an independent creative rights company that develops, manages and acquires sound recordings, music publishing rights and theatrical performance rights. It is a private company, funded by long-term institutional capital and members of Concord’s management team. As of the beginning of 2021, the company has approximately 600 staff members in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville (headquarters), London, Berlin and Miami.
