Edundja Junior Secondary School is a school in the Ohangwena Region of northern Namibia. It is located 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) east of Oshikango, the nearest town, and 20 kilometres (12 mi) south of the Angolan border, 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Ondangwa. It is currently a junior secondary school, but it will become a full secondary school in a few years. There are about 250 students that attend Edundja. There 9 classes, ranging from grade 8 to grade 10.

The northern and western parts of the region are the most densely populated of this essentially subsistence agricultural region in which small scale mahangu cultivation and the keeping of cattle form the predominant activities. Oshikango village in Ohangwena Region, Namibia

Oshikango is a former village in northern Namibia and since 2004 part of the town of Helao Nafidi, although it still maintained its own village council for a number of years. Oshikango is still the name of the border post with Angola and the electoral constituency for this suburb. It is estimated to have grown from "a tiny cluster of shebeens around an open market into a thriving boomtown with around 5,000 to 8,000 inhabitants over a period of 10 years".

History

Edundja Secondary School opened in 1989. The school had only one building at that time, and every year another building was added. Due to the quick expansion rate, the school is on its way to becoming a full-fledged secondary school consisting of grades 8–12.

The Norwegian Embassy in Namibia donated 25 computers to the school in 1999. That same year, on August 28th, President Sam Nujoma officially opened Edundja Secondary School. The US Defense Department provided funds to expand the school in 2000.

Samuel Shafiishuna Daniel Nujoma, is a Namibian revolutionary, anti-apartheid activist and politician who served three terms as the first President of the Republic of Namibia, from 1990 to 2005. Nujoma was a founding member and the first president of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) in 1960. Prior to 1960, SWAPO was known as OPO. He played an important role as leader of the national liberation movement in campaigning for Namibia's political independence from South African rule. He established the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) in 1962 and launched a guerrilla war against the apartheid government of South Africa in August 1966 at Omungulugwombashe, beginning after the United Nations withdrew the mandate for South Africa to govern the territory. Nujoma led SWAPO during the lengthy Namibian War of Independence, which lasted from 1966 to 1989.

Students are unofficially divided into grades 7 & 8 and 9-12. The school day consists of 7 periods ranging from 51 to 52 minutes with 3 to 5 minutes passing time allowed. Other Wednesday, students get out of school an hour early to allow for faculty professional development meetings. Junior high students have a closed lunch period between 3rd and 4th hours while grades 9-12 enjoy an open lunch after 4th hour.

Education in Namibia is compulsory for 10 years between the ages of 6 and 16. There are approximately 1500 schools in Namibia of which 100 are privately owned. The Constitution directs the government to provide free primary education; however, families must pay fees for uniforms, stationery, books, hostels, and school improvements.

Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool, commonly referred to as WAP, is a private school in Windhoek, Namibia. It is the only school which educates its pupils in the Afrikaans medium. Registered since 1995 at the Namibian Ministry of Basic Education, Sport and Culture, it welcomes pupils to grades 1 through 12. Admissions to the institution are based on the prerequisites set by the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia.

Namilyango

Epandulo Combined School is a school in Onalunike village in the Oshikoto Region of northern Namibia. It is situated about 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of Omuthiyagwiipundi along the Ondangwa - Tsumeb main road.
