Ek Din Pratidin (English title: "And Quiet Rolls the Dawn") is a 1979 Bengali film directed by Mrinal Sen. The film stars Mamata Shankar, Gita Sen and Sreela Majumdar, among others. It was entered into the 1980 Cannes Film Festival. [1]

Plot

The daughter of an economically middle-class family fails to return home one night. Her family worries, make searches and evolves into a deep crisis, more so because she is the only bread winner in the family. Overcoming the economic and social constraints, the film has a deep underlining of hidden strength.

Tapan Sinha was one of the most prominent Indian film directors of his time forming a legendary quartet with Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and Mrinal Sen. He was primarily a Bengali filmmaker who worked both in Hindi cinema and Bengali cinema, directing films like Kabuliwala (1957), Louha-Kapat, Sagina Mahato (1970), Apanjan (1968), Kshudhita Pashan and children's film Safed Haathi (1978) and Aaj Ka Robinhood. Sinha started his career in 1946, as a sound engineer with New Theatres film production house in Kolkata, then in 1950 left for England where he worked at Pinewood Studios for next two years, before returning home to start his six decade long career in Indian cinema, making films in Bengali, Hindi and Oriya languages, straddling genres from social realism, family drama, labor rights, to children's fantasy films. He was one of the acclaimed filmmakers of Parallel Cinema movement of India.

She was the niece of musician Pandit Ravi Shankar. Her brother, Ananda Shankar, was an Indo-Western fusion musician.

Dakhal is a 1981 Indian Bengali film directed by Gautam Ghose, with Mamata Shankar, Robin Sen Gupta, Sunil Mukherjee and Sujal Roy Chowdhury in lead roles. The film is about a woman belonging to nomadic tribe from Andhra Pradesh, known as crow hunters, who elopes and moves to south Bengal and makes a living by occult practices. It deals with the issue of exploitation of tribal people by the deceitful landlord. The film was based on Amma, a short story of Sushil Jana.

Nagmoti is a 1983 Indian Bengali film directed by Gautam Chattopadhyay and produced by Sibaprasad Sen, starring Atanu Roy, Joy Banerjee and Sreela Majumdar in the lead roles. The screenplay and the musical score was also written by Gautam Chattopadhyay. The cinematographer of the film was Vivek Banerjee. The Director of audiography was Durga Das Mitra. The editor of the film was Bulu Ghosh.

The West Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for Best Actress in a supporting Role is given yearly by WBFJA as a part of its annual West Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards for Bengali films, to recognise the best actresses of the previous year.
