Ellen Gunilla Hillingsø (born 9 March 1967) [1] is a Danish actress who is known primarily for her work in films. She is also a voice actress, narrating audio books.

Early life

Ellen Gunilla Hillingsø was born on 9 March 1967 in Copenhagen to Kjeld Georg Hilligsøe Hillingsø, then a lieutenant in the Danish Royal Life Guards, and Ellen Birgitta Hillingsø (née Juel), an antiques dealer. Hillingsø's maternal grandfather was Gregers Juel, a chamberlain and a Knight (1st Class) of the Order of the Dannebrog. Her paternal uncle was Lars Hillingsø, a fashion designer and founder of the Lars Paris brand. She is a goddaughter of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

Hillingsø has one sibling, Jens Georg, who is three years older. He works at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen and is a former chairman of Médecins sans Frontières.

Career

Primarily a film actress, Hillingsø made her debut in the farce Huller i suppen in 1988, playing a small role alongside the comic duo John and Aage (Povl Erik Carstensen and Morten Lorentzen). [2] After appearing in En verden til forskel (1989), she began as a stage actress, appearing at the Århus Theatre from 1990 to 1994. [3]

In 1996, Hillingsø appeared in Peter Thorsboe's drama Krystalbarnet, in which she starred with Mirosław Baka, Grażyna Barszczewska, and Helene Egelund. In 1999, she starred in Søren Kragh-Jacobsen's Mifune's Last Song alongside Iben Hjejle, Anders Hove, Sofie Gråbøl, and Paprika Steen. In 2007, she appeared in Karlas kabale , based on the 2003 book of the same title written by Renée Simonsen. [4] Also in 2007 she starred in the Danish television police drama Anna Pihl .

In 2010 she starred in the film Eksperimentet , directed by Louise Friedberg. The film deals with social experiments and the problem of cultural genocide in Greenland. The film premiered on 28 August 2010 in the Katuaq Culture Centre in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. [5] [6]

Aside from her work as an actress, Hillingsø has done notable work as a voice actress in cartoons, film and TV, and in audio books.

Personal life

Hillingsø married the director of Saxo Bank, Christoffer Castenskiold, on 27 December 2000. They have two children together. [7]

Holes in the Soup is a Danish comedy film released in 1988. A farce, it features comedians Morten Lorentzen and Povl Erik Carstensen as John and Aage. Lorentzen and Carstensen later recorded a live stand-up comedy version of the film, which they released on DVD, John & Aage - Huller I Suppen.

Morten Lorentzen is a Danish comedian, actor and film director. He is the son of the composer Bent Lorentzen. Appearing both on film and TV and as a live stand-up, he is best known for his role as John in the comic duo of John and Aage on TV 2, alongside Povl Erik Carstensen. He wrote the script and starred in the film Holes in the Soup in 1988 featuring John and Aage.

The Danish Critics Prize for Literature is an annual Danish literature award. It was established in 1957 by the Danish Publishers Association. Since 1971 the award has been made by the Danish Literature Critics Association after a vote by members. The award currently carries a prize of DKK 30,000. The Robert Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role is one of the merit awards presented by the Danish Film Academy at the annual Robert Awards ceremony. The award has been handed out since 1984.

The Reumert Award is an annual Danish awards ceremony to recognize excellence in theatre achievements in Denmark. The award was founded by the Bikuben Foundation in 1998, and has been handed annually since then. There are 16 award categories as well as 10 talent awards. A jury of ten specialists in theatre selects the recipients, who receive a statuette and a prize. As of 2016, the recipients also receive an amount of money. The recipients of the Reumert Award of Honour receive DKK 200,000, the recipients of the Talent Prize receive DKK 35,000 and all other categories-recipients receive DKK 40,000. The Reumert prize is named after the Danish actor Poul Reumert (1883–1968).
