While vol.53 of Zizhi Tongjian recorded details of this incident, the account's mention of Tang Heng and Zuo Guan was under another context; the duo told Emperor Huan that Li and Du thought that the emperor was uworthy of offering sacrifices to the ancestral spirits of the imperial clan (and thus implied that he was unworthy of the throne; 宦者唐衡、左心官共谮杜乔于帝曰:“陛下前当即位,乔与李固抗议,以为不堪奉汉宗祀。”帝亦怨之。).
