Faiz Ali Faiz (Urdu: فیض علی فیض; born in 1962 in Sharaqpur, Pakistan) is a well-known Pakistani qawwali singer. [1] [2]

Urdu national language and lingua franca of Pakistan; standardized register of Hindustani

Urdu —or, more precisely, Modern Standard Urdu—is a Persianised standard register of the Hindustani language. It is the official national language and lingua franca of Pakistan. In India, it is one of the 22 official languages recognized in the Constitution of India, having official status in the six states of Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, as well as the national capital territory of Delhi. It is a registered regional language of Nepal.

Sharaqpur Sharif is a town of Sheikhupura District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is located at 31°27′48″N74°6′0″E and lies on the Jaranwala road, 32 kilometres (20 mi) from Lahore and 20 kilometres (12 mi) from the third exit of the M2.

Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a country in South Asia. It is the world’s sixth-most populous country with a population exceeding 212,742,631 people. In area, it is the 33rd-largest country, spanning 881,913 square kilometres. Pakistan has a 1,046-kilometre (650-mile) coastline along the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman in the south and is bordered by India to the east, Afghanistan to the west, Iran to the southwest, and China in the far northeast. It is separated narrowly from Tajikistan by Afghanistan's Wakhan Corridor in the northwest, and also shares a maritime border with Oman.

Faiz was born into a family of seven generations of qawwals. [1] He studied classical music with Ustad Ghulam Shabir Khan and Ustad Jafat Khan, and qawwali music with Muhammad Ali Faridi and Abdur Rahim Faridi Qawwal.

Faiz Ali Faiz was nominated for a BBC Radio 3 World Music Award in 2005 and 2006. [1]

Since 1997, Duquende has been a member of the Paco de Lucía Sextet in addition to working as a solo artist.

Poveda is a flamenco singer and interpreter of other genres. He has collaborated with artists from various disciplines who were previously unknown to flamenco audiences. In 2003, he moved to Seville. He often collaborates with Spanish flamenco guitarist Juan Gómez "Chicuelo", with whom he has toured extensively in Europe, Japan and the US.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, born Anjum Pervaiz Ali Khan, was a Pakistani vocalist and musician, primarily a singer of Qawwali, a form of Sufi Islamic devotional music. Widely considered one of the greatest voices ever recorded, he possessed an extraordinary range of vocal abilities and could perform at a high level of intensity for several hours. Extending the 600-year old Qawwali tradition of his family, Khan is widely credited with introducing Qawwali music to international audiences. Qawwali Sufi devotional music popular in South Asia

The band was initially founded and led by Ghulam Farid Sabri and his brother Maqbool Ahmed Sabri.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Pakistani sufi singer

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, is a Pakistani musician, primarily of Qawwali, a devotional music of the Muslim Sufis. He is the nephew of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan and also the grandson of Qawwali singer Fateh Ali Khan. In addition to Qawwali, he also performs ghazals and other light music. He is also popular as a playback singer in Bollywood and the Pakistan film industry.

Aziz Mian Qawwal was one of Pakistan's leading traditional qawwals and also famous for singing ghazals in his own unique style of qawwali. Aziz is still one of the most popular qawwals of South Asia, and he has given us many Qawwali hits. He holds the record for singing the longest commercially released qawwali, Hashr Ke Roz Yeh Poochhunga, which runs slightly over 115 minutes.

Dildar Hussain is a Pakistani percussionist or a tabla player. He is known for being the tabla player for late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, a renowned Qawwali singer. Dildar Hussain played tabla for him in his qawwali-singing group until Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan died in 1997. Dildar Hussain belongs to the Punjab gharana of tabla-playing music artists.

Kris Chetan Ramlu New Zealand musician

Kris 'Chetan' Ramlu, is a New Zealand musician of Indian origin. Though his main instrument is the tabla, Chetan plays many other instruments and has learnt classical singing with some of the Indian masters. His biggest musical influence is Ustad Zakir Hussain, a virtuoso percussionist whose name is synonymous with the tabla.

Ustad Ghulam Fariduddin Ayaz Al-Hussaini Qawwal is a Pakistani Qawwal. He belongs to the Qawwal Bachchon Ka Gharana of Delhi. He and his relatives are the flag-bearers of that school of music (gharana), which is also known by the name of the city as the Delhi gharana. He performs various genres of Hindustani classical music such as dhrupad, khayal, tarana, thumri, and dadra. Ayaz leads the qawwal party with his younger brother, Ustad Abu Muhammad. They are probably the most sought-after qawwals in Pakistan and as well as in the South Asian subcontinent.

Ustad Bahauddin Khan Qawwal was a Pakistani Qawwali musician.

Chhaap Tilak Sab Chheeni, is a poem composed by Amir Khusro, a 14th-century Sufi mystic, in the Braj Basha language. Due to the resonance of its melody and mystical lyrics, it is frequently heard in Qawwali concerts across South Asia. The poem has a romantic expression, however, it is a devotional verse penned by Amir Khusro in respect of his spiritual mentor, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya as seen in verse below 'I give my whole life to you Oh, Nizam, You've made me your bride, by just a glance'.

Sher Miandad Khan (born 1968), is a Pakistani qawwal and a folk singer. He was born in Pakpattan, Pakistan and started his qawwali group in 1996. He adopted qawwali singing as his family tradition. His grandfather Din Mohammad Qawwal was a renowned qawwal of India and Pakistan. He learned music from his father Ustad Miandad Khan. He is a cousin of renowned qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Sher Miandad is the younger brother of another popular Pakistani qawwal Badar Ali Khan also known as Badar Miandad Qawwal.

Maqbool Ahmed Sabri was a major Qawwali singer, and a leading member of the Sabri Brothers, a leading qawwali group in Pakistan during the 1970s–1990s. He was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 1978.


Manzoor Ahmed Khan Niazi was a renowned Pakistani Qawwal and a classical musician in India and Pakistan. He belonged to the well-known family of Qawwals, Qawwal Bachchon Ka Gharana of Delhi.

Fanna-Fi-Allah band

Fanna-Fi-Allah is a Canadian-American group which plays Qawwali, a form of Sufi devotional music popular in South Asia. It consists of seven members. Group leader Tahir Faridi Qawwal, originally from Nova Scotia, has studied music from some of the greatest qawwali masters in Pakistan and India over many years. Aminah Chishti is the student of Ustad Dildar Hussain and is the first female tabla player to be initiated into the lineage of Qawwali. The group are ambassadors of sufi qawwali music in the west.
